What Are The Hospitals Like

Featured Replies

Hi i am moving to Thailand soon. I am assured by my company my health insurance will cover everything, but I have lived in to many countries that no matter what insurance I had, they wanted my credit card first. What is the situation in Thailand and what is the general healthcare like.

Do I need to keep my Dentist in UK, or will I get better treatment in Thailand. I have lived in France for 5 years but always popped back to UK for Dental treatment is this possible in Thailand.

I also wear glasses/contacts, what is the optician situation.

Any advice about health care would be appreciated

Dentists are fine and general checkups are actually pretty good. For more demanding things like cancer I would go back to Europe for everything else you will be fine over here. Opticians are good and I can get all the fancy frames and hi tech glasses from Japan or France here too. Don't worry.

I just collect medical certificates and send them to my health insurance back home and have the money back in a few weeks. Easy.

As far as the hospitals they are fine, just as good as anywhere in the world however doctors diagnostic talents in Thailand have been hit or miss for me. There have been more times than not I was either misdiagnosed or just sent home with a bag of antibiotics without any attempt to even understand the problem. I would never live here again without access to health care in the USA if I needed something serious taken care of. For example I've had something wrong with my leg for a year and no doctor has been able to understand what the problem is and no effort to do any test beyond poking my leg with their finger has been attempted.
