I'm off to see the in-laws in a few weeks and usually stay out by Pak Nam (near the pier for Koh Tao). Boring wouldn't even begin to describe it!! Watching the sun set over the buffalo field is the highlight!! :)

I'm looking for a decent farang run bar in the town centre for a quiet Saturday afternoon beer and a gossip with the local ex-pats.

Any decent recommendations?

Hi You have a choice of a couple of bars aimed at farangs. You have the farang bar in the cehtre of town opposite the Chumphon Garden hotel and Fame tours near the night market and the KFC. You also had the Booze bar at the end of the road the farang bar is on. All have their regular farangs and do decent farang food. You also get the people in transit going to Tao KPG and Samui and those going to Phuket, Krabi and BKK. If you have transport try a night in Thun Wha laen beach 14 km north of Chumphon. Some excellent beach bars with a few farang locals as well. I highly recommend the Mali Blues bar. The Thai owner plays the most amazing blues guitar! Enjoy :)

Thanks Dunc. i might try the Farang Bar in the centre. It's just for a quiet Saturday afternoon beer. Gets me away from the missus and her clan for an afternoon. Don't get me wrong; lovely lovely people, but you know what I mean!! Toothless old women running around the soi in their saggy bras and children staring at you as if you had just landed from Mars.:)

Yes, the Farang Bar it is for me. The food [although by no means cheap] is superb and the suuroundings are pleasant enough. Fame is O.K. too, but a little concretely looking for my taste.
