Atkins Diet

Featured Replies

1 week in to the liver-destroying, kitten-strangling Atkins diet induction. Haven't lost any weight yet (could it be the coffee? Cigs? Antibiotics? All?) but I'm game for another week or so (and the antibiotics stopped yesterday). Feeling fine on it, but am wondering if anyone has found any decent street food (khao mun gai without rice seems like heresy) or snacks that fit with the diet. My 7-Eleven raids seem to solely result in two hard-boiled eggs and lustful looks at the bottles of Singha.

I've been nibbling on kep moo, olives and cucumbers, but that has got a little old already. Anyone got any good local tips?

Hey POLECAT......while these two aren't specifically street food, they are both tasty and cheap: fried pork skins and fried salmon skins.....widely available at any of the grocery stores (not 7-11...sorry).

Enjoy! (hopefully)

CHEERS!

Sorry, by kep moo, I meant pork rinds. Thanks for the suggestion though.

What about BBQed catfish, chicken liver and hearts? Smoked chicken is made on markets in a big clay pots with metal cover, no carbs there.

PS: Try South Beach diet instead, it's much easier on your and more Thailand-friendly

If you want to lose weight DON'T go on a diet. Just exercise & quit eating crap. Diets do not work.

I think Atkins is the greatest...off sugar, off caffeine (rough withdrawal had to do it gradually), and anything high carb...never would have believed how right this way of eating seems. Intend never to go back to my past eating and gradually learn more about cooking/eating Atkins. Kai ping is a nice snack (4 for 20 baht) as is ham cold cuts from Food Land and chunks of local cheddar (much cheaper than imported cheese). Anyone know if you can buy Atkins food (low carb flour etc. etc.) in Thailand? Has anyone had Atkins food shipped to them by a seller? Thanks

Years back I purchased some from the atkins website (which I think is now defunct). It was an absolute nightmare getting it through customs and cost me more than double the value in customs duties (food apaprently is a very high tariff item)

You can find low carb items through other online stores but all that I have seen refuse to ship to Thailand, probably because of the high tariffs/problems with people refusing tio pay and the items being returned

Its not that hard to go low carb, i went low carb for a while here in Thailand. Just eat a lot of chickenbreast and dont eat rice. I also found that shirake noodles you can get here are made out of fibers and so fill you up (but no carbs). Its possible but you do have to change your diet a lot.

At the moment im so high in proteins that i might have to cut down a bit on proteins and get more carbs in. I will see because im loosing weight at a fast pace.

What i have found is that your body needs time of from diet at times. I was 3 months on a diet lost over 13kg and then it stopped. So i stopped the diet kept on working out building more muscle.. i might have put on a lil bit of fat (or not) but now im on diet again because i want my fat percentage to go below 10% im at 15% now and the KG's just seem to drop real fast again.

So in my opinion its good to be off diet at times too to give your body time to relax so you can loose a lot of weight in your next bout.
