Hi,

I want to thank all of the members who helped out my wife when she asked for a recommended tattoo artist in Patong.

I can only remember one name that she mentioned and that's Mecca, so to you mate, thanks very much.

For those of you that want a tattoo in Phuket and aren't yet aware of Am from Siam Tattoo Studio, He is located on Soi Easy off Bangla Road and is the best.

My wife wanted a few Japanese Kanji Characters on her left side that represents ' In memory of my Father'. I was just going to watch but instead found myself getting Am to design a tribal tiger.

I look at it now and the actual design is so detailed. The claws are so refined, and clear and the tip of the claw comes to a brilliant and precise point.

I am searching for a design for my second one for when we return to Phuket next year. Funny that, the amount of people that said they would never get a tattoo done in Thailand when I told them my wife was getting one done. I wouldn't have anyone else but Am, do a tattoo on me and recommend him to all that are seeking a bloody good tattoo artist.

I got mine done by Am too last year. He is the best in Phuket - looks like it's going to be hard to get an appointment from now on! I tried to attach a photo of mine getting done with Am but I'm not sure if it worked? Is a aussie flag up top, a thai flag down below, and a thai dragon in between, all designed by Am on request, and done freehand. Took 7 hours.

I had a similar tattoo done by An in June 2009. I've been going to Patong for years and he's a great guy. One of our mutual friends fianlly talked me into it. Anyhow, my design as along teh same lines but an Aussie and a Singapore flag with my daughter's name. After he did the design on the trace paper he pulled out his camera and showed me your tattoo - fantastic mate! ANyhow, mine was on the inside of my upper arm and he did it easy with less pain than I thought. The result is excellent. A bit of trivia - An is Muslim and due to family etc can't get tattoos but he lives for them and loves the work. For someone like that his work is simply amazing. It won't be my last visit to him!

I am heading to Phuket the first week of September with my wife and our son. I want to get a nice tattoo my son portrait on my chest. Who does the best Portrait tattoo ? what do you think it cost ? I budget around 10K baht....

Yeah depnds on who you go too. 10,000baht would be enough for a medium sized portrait (about the size of a 1 or 2 palms of your hand) - that should include drawing it up, and inking it on. I can only recommend Am at Siam tattoo studio, he used to be an artist before he started with the needle so he really has the experience and seems to get it right every time. Never heard anyone dissapointed with his work.

Yes I would say about the size of my palm. On my left chest.I email him about how much time her would need so I can plan. Have the wife and son alone so need to work out the time.

He is an excellent artist, some of the hand drawings of people that we saw on the wall and in folders where brilliant. There is one of three mates together with so much detail you have to see.We have already picked more interesting tattoo's for our next visit.

As said Pm Mecca , Am likes to sleep in :)

Thanks. I'm back in April next year for Songkran, gonna get it re-coloured and add a bit more to it. It's addictive, just gotta keep on adding. Do Heroes MC members get their work done with Am too?

Sorry lads, if this is the work of Phuket's finest, I can only assume the others arent very good.

I know tattoos are a personal thing and we all have our own ideas.

The one in the first picture doesnt seem to have a bold sharp outline, in fact there doesnt appear to be any, and if this work was done last year, there is no way it should need recoloured.

The second is in a style known as graffic in Thai, and should be jet black all over.

At the end of the day, as long as you are happy with the work, thats all that matters.

The only tattoo artist that qualifies in Phuket, is the guy known as Sorn who won the best Thai Traditional Tattoo at the bikers week this year. Check him out in Cherng Talay. Bamboo, Less pain, better looks. Sorry I am biased towards bamboo and the winner is again ...Khun Sorn of Cherng Talay, PHUKET.

Yes I totally agree ThaiMouse, I just got back from Phuket. Four years ago I got a tattoo in Patong done by machine and it not only faded after about 18 months, it also raised from the skin. On this trip my mate recommended Sorn as he has known him for years and told me to go and see him about getting my tattoo re-coloured. Firstly he completely fixed up my old tattoo and I was so impressed I decided to get a bigger sleeve style tattoo done.

I would not get another machine done tattoo after having one done by hand. Please don't misunderstand me, there are some great machine artists in Patong, but there are also a couple of real shonks. I'd like to name one particular short guy who thinks he runs the tattoo industry in Patong. He is basically just plain dishonest and gives all the genuine artists a bad name.

I recommend Sorn as he is not only a great artist but also a great guy, very self-effacing and down to earth.
