p.s the land thing is racist.

Yeah, but Robblok,

It's not racist is it, you knew full well before you came to Thailand to live, before YOU CHOSE Thailand and decided to CHOOSE Thailand as your base, that you could never own land here, it wasn't an all of a sudden law sprung upon you was it ?

It's not like the law has been implemented all of a sudden, it's been that way for as long as I can remember, that's why I never whine about it, I knew the score before I decided to come here, so why would I complain about something I already knew ?

It was my choice to come, and it's also my choice to stay, thank <deleted> we have choices. :)

Luckily for me, ( I don't know about you ), I have a UK passport that enables me to leave Thailand whenever I want and go to virtually any other other country I want to go to.

Now that's what I call freedom, there are Millions of Thai people who would love the same freedom that you and I have.

You are right it was not a new thing i knew it when i came here. Still i don't like the idea of having to leave the house if (lets hope not) my wife dies before me.

I have a Dutch pasport and can go where i want. I just like it here a lot. I have complaints and such but hel_l nothing really major. I still choose Thailand over Holland anytime.

Since I am not a good story writer I just like to know why Farangs always have to put up with crap?

I have lived in Thailand for 2 years now (not counting all the trips I made here before)

I went for my usual border run ( as you know you have to do ) So I had to make the stupid check up

to be testet for my health. ( swine flu) Now my wife who is a Thai national never been ask the same.

I did ask why do I have do that ? The answer was you have an Australian Passport. :)

So my wife has an Thai passport which I don't have she can travel and I can not ?

I have lived here longer than you, and have never had to do a border run, as you know you have to do, sorry I wasnt aware there was a requirement to do one, have I missed something? did Suan Plu screw up on my last visa extension? I dont think so.

If border runs trouble you so much there are simple solutions, get legal, get an extension to your non imm o, as plenty of others do, get a job and a wp.

You choose to live here, in a country that has loopholes that can be exploited by people who dont meet the visa extension requirements such as your good self and yet you complain about having to do border runs to allow you to stay here.

You dont have to put up with this crap, go home and take your wife with you, you should be thankful and grateful, Thailand has loop holes for you to exploit.

I think alot of people would argue that point.

Knowing a law exists does not make in non-racist.

Imagine a black man, non-US citizen going to the US in the 50's.

Would a segregated bus be a non-racist policy for him?

As soon as someone still thinks and mentions: In Holland...(or in Germany, the UK, the USA, or wherever) you clearly show, that you are not here completely on your free will - maybe - without realizing that!

Something forced you to be in Asia - finance, the law, the small friend below the belly, something deep inside you...?...whatever.

To get over that and to have a real good life, you have just 2 choices:

1.) accept EVERYTHING which is going on here

2.) go back home and be realistic

Crazy reasoning...

i feel you can always complain about this country as i complained in Holland about Holland. There is no such thing as perfection. In the end stay here if there are more nice things as bad things. Go when this is not the case.

But to accept everything is crazy.. Did you accept everything where you came from ?

It is in your mind - nowhere else

and you really can cultivate that until

perfection

Yeah, but Ed,

You have a choice, you probably left a 1st world country and came to a 3rd world country expecting what exactly ?

If the system does not suit you, then you have to think again about your CHOICE of countries to move to and why you CHOSE Thailand in the first place.

Rob, I'm in the same boat mate...............

I guess I'm fortunate enough to be able to write off anything that I've spent in Thailand if I had to.

Of course, there are some guys, maybe older guys, that have ploughed all their money into something and when it goes tits up !, they're screwed and lose everything.

I do understand that and I really would advise people to think long and hard before taking the plunge to live in Thailand, there are pitfalls that the green guy from Europe may never even think of, cos in his country, things are done different.

Yet this isn't Europe or USA, it's Thailand, love it or hate it, it's the way it is, and all the whinging and whining on ThaiVisa will not change a thing.

At the end of the day you must take responsibility for your own actions, and if Thailand is getting you down, move on, your passport is still valid and good for so many countries, the Thai people could never have the freedom of movement that you and I have.

The choice is yours. :)

Whinging on TV won't change anything immediately, but it's a good place to vent and listen to responses. I've learned one heck of a lot here.

If Thailand is getting you down, you can always stay for a while, give yourself time to rethink your priorities, and then decide whether to move on. Keep an open mind, eh...

My Thai wife and I have come to a realization: I'm thinking more like a Thai these days, and she's thinking more like a farange. She no longer allows herself (or me) to be shat upon, and gives an offender holy hel_l in a handbasket! The concept of "face" is no longer put ahead of the concept of what's right, but she is still all Thai - wouldn't leave the country if I gave her a million dollars (wish I had that much to try it out). And yeah I whinge, better that than road rage, eh... and I listen to the reactions, and most of the time I'm able to see the other side of things. Not always, though :D

Rob,

I think Birdman is right in here. You choose to go there for some reason, so don't complain about it, if you are there. YOU choose for it.

Similar to me Noah,

the only difference may be is that I look at the other side, totally disregard it, and carry on as normal... :)

At the moment I am in what is supposed to be one of the most desirable places on earth to be, to be honest, I just wanna go home to Loei.

The things we do for money................................. :D

Mind you, I'm listening to Led Zeppelin " Babe, I'm gonna leave you " at this moment through my Bose QC 3"s, and life don't seem so bad after all.

It certainly could be a lot worse.

I don’t. Just visit Immigration once a year for my visa extension, do not have to leave Thailand and never have any problems.

As a visa runner you are a tourist and not viewed as an ex-pat. Therefore, not vetted as those having to apply each year for a non Immigrant visa.

As a tourist supposedly on holiday you should be treated as any other foreign holidaymaker and subject to border checks when entering another country. This is not discrimination but rather shows the border officials are doing their job.

As for your wife, she would probably be subjected to similar procedures if she was to travel to Australia, America or Europe on a Thai passport.

Migrants are frequently treated poorly, no matter what country.

Australia in the fifties, Italians were looked on with suspicion, then in the 70s, Vietnamese,, this decade African migrants.

In USA, Mexicans,

Western Europe, Turks.

UK, migrants from the Carribean.

Most countries, muslims.

So it is not a unique situation - immigrants will be regarded as not as good as the locals in most, if not all, countries, Thailand is incredibly tolerant.

I just don't agree with that statement. You can always complain about things as long as your happy about the majority of things. If someone gave me bad internet service in Holland i would complain same as i would complain if it happened here.

Moving somewhere out of your free will does not mean you can't complain about everyday things.

Like i said before all in all i'm quite happy here but there are of course always things that i don't like and i reserve the right to complain and vent.

Would think that those who are 'wordly' enough to have been born in one country and maintain, at minimum, a presence in another would know that there are all types of quirky little things that go on from country to country. For instance the country I'm working in now decided that foreigners should have the same information that the citizens have in their passports. Ok, not a big problem except they're asking for parent's names and personal address. I don't much care for them to have the names of my parents nor my home address, so I created a couple of names and put down 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on that stupid form they sent me.

But back to the bird flu bullshit. Fewer people have died, per day, from this flu than die daily in most any modern Western country from garden variety flu. And yet the wife will not bring the daughter to the airport over fear that she could contract it. A reminder that we could get it and pass it on didn't register too much.......
