I think that you will find that some fit your description, probably a very small minority.

In the same vein football hooligans and drunken skinheads make up a tiny proportion of the Brits.

I'm a Brit and I've never been to a major league football match, I'm not a drunk, a skinhead (well only half way there . ) and I'm not a hooligan. Same as the very large majority of Brits.

I'm Aussie and quite frankly am embarassed by some of the things that other Australians do or say. Or should that be 'Orrstrayalins' - as I really think that there are some bogan's/yobbo's out there, both male and female alike. Case in point of a female just recently . Like one poster said, I think that there are thieving bastards - but thankfully they are in the minority. Cheers.

You are trying to make this appear Thailand related, but really just slagging off Australians.

On reading your post, it becomes obvious that your forefather’s were some sort of uneducated inbreds.

And if Australians really do leave their brains at home, at least they had one to start off with, that is more than I can say for this OP.

Are New Zealanders considered the same as Aussies? I know one guy who's from NZ, but now lives in London. Sounds like a double-whammy to me. He is brainless. Worse, actually.

I think the problem is that it costs about the same now or a little more to fly to Thailand than it does to fly interstate. A lot of people that have never been overseas and would normally holiday at home are turning up via Jetstar.

I am trying not to be a snob here but the fact is a lot of these yobs getting in strife treat Thailand and thais with contempt.

I suppose its a bit like the poms on the cheap in Europe.

Maybe every Aussie leaving the country for the 1st time should be made to sit through a 15 minute video on the do's and don't's of behaving O.S.

Australia is closer, so I think you get more rift raft on budget flights. I don't want to be mean, but I have seen so many of these Aussie families here on vacation and I swear, half the time the kids look like they are cross-eyed and a couple of cards short of a full deck.

Australia is not closer (10 hours flight, same as Kazakstan or Dubai). What it is - in words of former Oz PM John Howard - "a Western society with strong links to America".

Australia is in Asia, whether they admit it or not. And "Little trusted entity with no understanding what Asia is", by the Economist papers.

Japan is 6 hours flight and brings 5 times more tourists (and thousand fold more investments) to Thailand. Proportionally, there is a negligent number of incidents. Add other Asian tourists (that are 50% of all arrivals to Thai) and Aussies, "little trusted and with no understanding what Asia is" source of incidents becomes a bit clearer.

I said more than that in my post. Light years apart, while being in Asia.

To reduce it down the flight distance and proximity - Australia is not "just around the corner".

The same as when the Brits holiday in Spain, show little respect for the native population or their customs.

In some cases they consider behaving like a brain dead bunch of drunken morons is OK, because it’s cheap, they’re abroad and think it’s acceptable.

Worldwide travel has become more affordable; this is going to attract more Western dross to foreign shores.

If they believe that Thailand is a soft touch for this kind of behaviour, let them think again. I can already visualize the jails filling up with these morons.

But unlike the OP, it is not correct to select those from a certain country as being troublemakers because of their race or history; this pertains to all Western nationalities and only those from the dross of society, not pertaining to majority of the populations.

They are rather ignorant, they don't understand where they are and what trade and with whom brings their dinner to their tables.

How things have changed: Communists mantra was - cruel capitalists, they take our raw materials at low prices or even exploit us and our resources, then sell us back the finished goods made from our own sources.

Now, Oz is that underdog, sells all the ore and minerals, whatever they can sell (note the reverse of the flow: capitalists to communists)...and get cheap China-made finished goods back.

While that is happening, we have incidents with Oz tourists in Thai...they have no idea their surroundings require a recognition.

Open season on Australians now? Last year, it was pee on the Americans time. Whatever faults Australians have, at least they smile, will hold a door for you and generally have a heart. In all the years of seeing Australians stagger down Bangla Rd., I have noticed that they have the training to vomit discreetly trying to aim for the sewer grate and to not launch a projectile wave in one's direction.They might be loud, I prefer the term lively, but they don't engage in the nasty barrage of dehumanizing insults some foreign nationalities are predisposed to do. More importantly, they have beach courtesy down. I have yet to see an Australian litter on the beach. They might drink alot of beer, but even the most vulgar looking of them will cart off the beer bottles and cans and say thank you to the beach chair people. Maybe some of them are trashy, but they don't have a habit of treating the locals like their indentured servants. I'd rather deal with the overly familiar in your face friendliness than the cold condescending attitudes of many Europeans.

Something's seriously screwed up when people pick on Australians. Their bark is worse than their bite.
