Since it appears that quite a few members of TV think a short overstay is okay, I would like to ask the following:

As I recall from the distant past (10+ years) there was a rule when applying for a WP or renewal of same, that if you have ever been convicted or fined for violating the immigration rules (in this case it would be overstay) a WP application may be rejected.

Is this still the case?

If so, people who have a WP or plan to apply for one should be warned about the consequences of even one day overstay.

There is an item in the qualifications section of the work permit application quidelines that says.

4. Never having been imprisoned for violation of the Imigration Law or the Working of Alien Act at least one year prior to the date of application.

So just paying an overstay fine would not disqulify an applicant.

I stand corrected.

Sorry, my info is out of date.
