May 27, 200916 yr That Thailand is not so interested in bringing people in the country to spend theire money was shown to me today. I wanted to bring my Cambodian girlfriend to Thailand to show her a little from the rest of the world. I paid a Passport for her, called the Thai Embassy-consularsection in Phnom Penh last week and asked about Visas for Cambodians, yes I was told you bring Passport on Monday and get back with Visa on Tuesday. Good, so I thought the Passport was finished yesterday, I will go on Wednesday and get her Visa on Thursday. BUT, at the Consularsection I was told -You get back 2.6.2009, thats nearly a week! A week in which I have to spend my money in Cambodia. Why? Because there is a meeting of ASEAN Ministers in PP and the embassy is to busy, the person who has to sign and approve the Visas is otherwise engaged. Super! I saw some Falangs who had already booked and paid flights to BKK (Visa application runs) and where not amused also. With AIR ASIA they lose with date change anyway! The Thai Embassy and consular section in Phnom Penh stops to deliver-sign Visas for at least 3 working days, =5 days including the Weekend. TIT-thank you!

He means that the consulate in P.P. used to stamp in your passport that you could not apply there again for a new visa when you applied for a visa there. Since recently they have become mroe friendly to people applying for a visa there. It is the head of mission (ambassador/consul) who decides how strict they will be. A new head of mission can mean a new policy.
