So I just got a job offer in a province about 2.5 hours out of Bangkok. Private school, teaching primary students. I told them that I don't have a bachelors degree (have CELTA) and that I am staying here right now on an ED VISA, and will continue to be here on an ED VISA (coming to BKK on weekends to study thai). They emailed me back right away and said the school has another teacher with no bachelors degree who they were able to help get a work permit no problem, and they thought they could do the same for me.

I thought I heard a while back that in the smaller cities this is sometimes possible, but just wanted to see if anyone knew if that is still the case at the moment. I realize nothing is guaranteed, and I don't need anyone to tell me to go back to school lol... but just want to know what anyone knows before I go meet with them tomorrow. Thxxx :)

Even without a degree, you will still need a Non-imm B or O to obtain a work permit. An ED VISA is about as much use as a tourist visa in obtaining a work permit - useless

Yes thank you, you can in fact work on an ED VISA, so I'm assuming that means you can get a work permit with an ED VISA... but I am not sure if I will be limited to the 20 hours of working if I keep that visa, does anyone know? I am not going to be a full-time student, just studying Thai on the weekends now, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Even so, I'll only be doing actual teaching 20 hours a week I believe... does the prep time count towards working too? lol Anyway my visa wasn't the question, they already know what type of visa I have so we don't need to throw random guesses at each other. :)

Thx beano... yea that's what it seems like, I didn't know if the government change had changed anything or not. Anyway, I'll just meet them tomorrow and see what they have to say.

For those trying to go about without a degree I'll try to update too.

Loaded. It's a confusing one. I think its down to the local labour office and /or the Head of the local education dept. This is Thailand after all. even when it's written in black and white it's sometimes grey :)
