Mekong Cats

Featured Replies

Hi,

i'm an avid fisherman living in Phuket. I'm absolutely itching to have a go catching some giant mekong catfish.

The question is where to go?

Ideally i'd like to go to bung samran. Just 1000 baht for 1 rod for 12 hours is what i've been told if you avoid the

pricey tours. Only problem is it's a bit far to go from phuket for just a weekend which is the only time i can

really go. Also the plane would add about 5000 baht to the cost.

So alternatively i've heard of Gillhams lake over at krabi and a new place at koh samui. Gillhams I think would be

quite pricey and sometimes day ticket guest are turned away when the place is full with people staying in the bungalows.

So is there anywhere anyone knows of near phuket with some big mekong cats.

I've caught sawai (stripped catfish) up to 15 kilos and they give a great fight but they are dwarfed by the mekong cats.

I'm only interested in a lake with big fish of say 20kg+

Cheers for any advice
