Can anyone resolve this? I get various opinions!

I propose to quit my public school job and go for retirement. I am over 50, and have the finance/income. I will quit at mid -term, in July. I have a non-Imm 1 year visa until Sept.

2 main questions:

If I am leaving in 6 weeks, can I start getting the Ret. extension now? I will need the embassy letter and stuff. OK, I would still be working for a few weeks on a ret. visa, but I would prefer to sort it out now than run around during the last 3 days. How should I time this?

Do I return my WP to the labour office myself? Or just return it to our personnel dept? What are the consequences of just being idle? Is there a fine or job overstay thing?

Apologies if these are old topics. This is new to me.

Do you have a Visa or an extension from Immigration?

If it is a Visa you can continue to use it until September.

If it is an extension it will finish the day you leave your job.

You don't have to turn in your work permit. Since March of last year that is not a requirement.

You shouldn't get the embassy letter until a week or so before you go to immigration. Some offices will not accept them if they are more than a few days old. Dependent upon which immigration office you go to you may need a bank book to show as a back up to the letter. Some offices even want a bank letter to go with the bank book.

On the day you are ready to do the change you will need a letter from your current employer stating that the date you go immigration is the date you are no longer working. Otherwise immigration could charge you overstay for any days after the date on the letter. You need the letter to cancel your current extension.

Lite

I think it's a non-Imm visa. The school does it every Sept.

Can I just use it even though I now retire???

PS office will be S Phlu

If you don't leave the country it is an extension of stay.

All you have to do is what I wrote above.

Get letter from the embassy to prove your income of 65,000 baht a week or so before you go to immigration.

Then change from an extension of stay for employment to one for retirement.

Thanks

I will be showing income, not a bank lump sum.

Do I need a bank book?

The income does not show into Thai banks. It goes to banks at home. i use atms to get at it.

As said before there is no requirement for this. Try and keep the ATM receipts in case they want to see some proof of how you are how you are financing yourself.

You will need the Embassy letter of income of 65k or more. There should not be a need for bank book but I would take it with me. You might want to consider using SWIFT wire transfers into local account every few months and using a local ATM card to access - that might work out cheaper and you will have a record if it is ever required.

It depends upon what immigration office you go to. Where are you going to apply?

Bangkok does not ask. Chiang Mai and Pattaya do, Pattaya even wants to see a letter from the bank.

I will go to San Plu in BKK.

Is it enough to have the embassy letter about 65000b plus coming in? I do have that income but it goes to UK banks first. I don't want to show my SCB book which only has my school salary flowing in. Do I really need ATM slips to show money being spent here?

Ubonjoe, do I just do nothing with my WP or hand it back to the HRM lady? There is a vague chance that I will do some other p-t work future.

The income letter will be enough in BKK they don't ask for anything else.

You no longer have to turn in your work permit. You should get a letter from the company stating that your job ended on the date that you plan on going to immigration.

Your work permit is only good for working with one company and it will be invalid the same date your job ends.

In most cases immigration does not ask for proof of address when you apply for an extension. Your income letter should have your address on it so it could also serve as proof of address.

A rental agreement would be ok I would think.

If immigration thought of her as subletting it to you then she would be consdered the house master for a TM30.

Does the end of job letter have to be shown when getting the Retirement ext at BKK? Or do I just keep it on file OR send it to Labor?

Immigration may want it to confirm that you are no longer working, Plus to check that you were not here after you stopped working and that is why the date is so important. According to the rules the day you stop working your extension ends and you have to leave the country or get an extension. There have been a lot people that ended up paying an overstay because they showed up at immigration with a letter dated before they went to immigration.
