I am seeking the best solution for having a long term VISA in Thailand.

I am American, 39 years old, have 1 son, also American, 8 years old.

I do not need to work here and can live adequately from outside income sources.

Previously, we I have had a Non-Imm B. VISA internally issued in Thailand (requiring 3 month check ins at Bkk. Immigration)

which we renewed annually (for the last 3 years).

My son's VISA mirrored mine with the same period of stay once mine had been approved.

My business interests have waned here, and it makes little sense to continue if the company had to pay taxes on employees or income that were not achieving profit.

Right now, the costs to keep such a VISA going total up to more than 275,000 thb per year (company tax, vat, employee income tax & ss, personal income tax, accounting fees, etc.)

Plus getting the VISA renewed is Extremely laborious and tenuous as any accounting error can trigger a rejection where I am forced back to a tourist visa after having paid all the above and satisfying all requirements to a nearly perfect level.

The way around this is rumored to be having to hire a 'visa agent' who will ask for 25,000 to 100,000 plus the possibility of more costs to 'lubricate' the process.

This occurred recently, and now, after all the red tape each month and more than 300 k for the year to satisfy all requirements to get a visa, an accounting error led to a non renewal. (the accountant signed an admission of error) which was ignored and too late anyway. I am being forced to leave the country and seek eithor a tourist visa or non - imm B visa issued outside the country, which will require me to leave every 3 months.

Since business has waned the costs are quite high for the uncertainty of renewals dependent on so many error prone Thai accountants and agents. I am not and do not wish to marry Thai and get those entanglements in my or my son's life.

I am not yet 50, nor rich enough for a retirement visa. I considered a student visa, but that can only be had up to 3 years, after which I would have a history as a student, not a good basis to seek another visa.

I wondered about residency but dont qualify since my income has been below 80,000 baht month, and I may not speak enough Thai to pass the proficiency interview yet.

So, hopefully someone has an insight out of this quagmire.

Thank you
