Featured Replies

Any idea what species of catfish this is and how big they go?

I've tried looking on various sites but nothing looks right.

Thanks in advance

ปลากด (Pla Got in Thai) Sometimes known as sheatfish and under various catfish names. Genus Pangasius. Love really smelly bait and fast running water.

Yes, some of the fast water, native species can get quite large and they can be caught on flies.

That is a real nice one. Would never have belived you could catch one on a fly if I had not seen your pictures.

There was a male and a female on what we think might have been a "nest" in the river and Jon tried several flies before he found one that worked. Then he caught both fish in short order. He released both of them unharmed. The big one fought as hard as any steelhead I've hooked.

Yesterday I saw a program on national geographic and, they catch a catfish about 200 Kg and 2.7 m long, in the 2005 a LARGE catfish was catch 295 Kg and dust under 3 m, that was in the Mae Kong river Thailand / Laos.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Can anyone give me some info on larger species in the Ping River, Chiang Mai and potential sizes.

Nope but I recall seen something like this in the Mekong River near NKP and these things were HUGE. :):D:D
