toastwars Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I am hooked on this stuff, I did a childrens benefit gig at police headquarters and they served the most amazing hoy tort (????spelling ..) I have since found a couple of places but non that compared to that first portion..any ideas???
DJ Pat Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 The best hoi tod I ever tasted was near the Phuttamonton area, they had several mobile carts decked out with bright red writing on a bright yellow signs. I was told the family ahd done this for many generations. Tasted damned good, I ate two in a row, drenched in that red chilli sauce..lovely!
toastwars Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 sounds good...sorry about my spelling
PvtDick Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Best I have had is available from an ancient Chinese restaurant called "Naay So", on the fringes of Chinatown at the Plaplachai 5-way intersection ("Haa yaek Plaplachai".
SEAtramp Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 My favourite for this is at a placed called Kaloang. Its down by the river behind the National library.
PvtDick Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Oysters and/or mussels fried up in a flat pan. Classic Thai street food.
SEAtramp Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Actual meaning of the words Hoi Tod are "deep fried "
DJ Pat Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Hoi = Oyster / Muscle Tod= Fry in oil Pad= Stir fry
Insight Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 If it's the same stuff I'm thinking of, there's a place I go to in Bang Bua Tong when driving the lady home - it's in the market on the main soi through the town so you can't miss it. Reckon I'll grab some tonight, come to think of it...
PvtDick Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Yes, although "tord" is literally deep-fried, these are fried on a big flat skillet. The vendors who sell them often make phad thai one one side of the skillet, and hoy tord on the other.
toastwars Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 I am going to be the size of a bus when I have sampled all these delights
dr_Pat_Pong Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 The Victory Monument area does a good job.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Excellent tip
chanchao Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 > Yes, although "tord" is literally deep-fried, these are fried on > a big flat skillet. I'd say this dish involves enough oil to qualify. In fact if it contained any more oil then the US may begin considering to start a war over it. And then there's the batter to complete the carbs-bomb.. Cheers, Chanchao
Boon Mee Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Actually just steamed Hoy gets me off. A couple big bowls washed down with some Chang - it don't get no better!
