The Daily News June 27

David Jackson,an Englishman aged 37, told police that on the evening of June 25 he had gone with *******, an American and close friend, aged 49, to a bank in Lad Prao to change foreign currency into Thai baht. The money totalled 950,000 baht in cash. They then went to a food centre in a department store in Lad Prao with the money in a bag.

After eating, David went outside to the car park for a cigarette, leaving the money in the bag on the table with *****. When he returned both **** and the money were missing. Telephone calls to ***** proved fruitless and a visit to his rented room in Khlong Dan resulted in no sightings of ****.

Convinced **** was involved in the loss, David rushed to the police station. He said he had known **** for over 10 years and had never seen any signs of shady or suspicious behaviour exhibited by **** before. He didn't think **** could behave like this.

After recording the complaint, police contacted immigration checkpoints to see if the suspect had already left the country, whilst at the same time they went to the scene of the incident in search of further clues, to both apprehend the suspect and to establish the truth of what happened.

I reckon *** or any of his other nics will be trying to avoid the Thai immigration checkpoints.

At least Mr Jackson had **** passport number to give to the cops.

Good luck Jacko, I know how you feel, having had $3500 stolen by staff at a guesthouse 20m behind Larry's Dive last November. :)

I'm sorry for this man, but how many of you will do that ?

yes, well he must not of placed much value on the money to start with. Leaving it in a bag on a table with a mate while he went to have a smoke.....seriously? :)

Question is?

Why would anyone be walking about with 950,000 baht in cash?

Sounds like the OPs so called friend is a shady character. The whole thing seems iffy.

Something not right here

So what was the deal with carrying all that cash around? And what was it to be used for?

Will the OP reply to these questions?

Tune in later for details of next weeks exciting episode.

There's got to be more to this story.

Firstly he takes someone with him to withdraw a large amount of money.

Secondly he doesn't go straight home, he roams around with the money even stoping for lunch.

Thirdly he just up and leaves nearly a million baht on the table to go out for a fag?

Even if you knew the guy no one would do this!

"Somethings rotten in Denmark" me thinks :)

walking with a plastic bag full of cash in broad daylight is more than stupid!

He wanted to show his friend how much confidence he has in him? So he left the bag with him?

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

I feel sorry for this guy but have to say "Som Nam Na"

To Darn trusting/Naive/plan old Dumb,, should have use common sense in the first place why not to a bank where you had an account, no need and very very foolish to walk out/and about with cash of that amount. Question? Did all the money belong to David Jackson, or some to the American, something just don't seem quite right here, oh well check Pattaya maybe this American friend will turn up there. :D:D:D:)

Yeah, funny this.....it was only a couple of weeks ago that a large amount of cash was neglectfully left in a supermarket trolley in NZ...a group of mates' entire savings for a big fishing trip..., but a real estate agent, someone who NEEDS to be trusted by the community to be able to compete in the industry, finds it and hands it in.

Lovely warm and fuzzy story at the end of the national news.

There are certainly some very odd aspects to this story.

the bank let a guy walk out with $1mil baht? hah, sweet.

Not really surprising.

Not long ago I stood behind a young girl (about 20 years old) in the bank. I saw the bank count at least 800,000 baht. Yes, I was watching them count the first few bundles of notes and then I thought about how much it was and watched them count the last 800,000 baht.

She put the money in a canvas bag and walked out of the bank. I was quite surprised as nobody escorted her or anything and would have been an easy victim.

I see a guy at the end of every month sets 1,300,000 baht that he puts in a small card board box. He then gets on his bicycle and pedals away all by his lonesome. It has always baffled my why he hasn't been robbed.

Another time I saw two ladies at the bank filling up a canvas bag (no idea the amount) that took both of them to pick it up. They walked out alone also.

950,000 baht exchanged from bank?hard to belive

Easy to check out the withdrawal from / with the bank, even a cop with half a brain would do that first.

The suspect had at least 2 aliases, I wonder if Mr.Jackson knew that before or after the event.

Natural selection. With his life savings gone he will probably not give out his genes and his linear weakness will die with him.

What kind of retard does this anyways? i wouldnt leave that much money with my mom..

I think the OP is having a bit of fun (sic), with davidcj's initial post which was deleted by a Zealot as it mentions the American's name, passport number and aliases.

I still have a copy of that post in my email.

Amazing the number of people here who say they wouldn't trust a "friend" of 10 years standing. :)

BTW, "plastic" bag was never mentioned nor was "life savings".

Some people here, would not make great witnesses....

greenwood01, your "mom" sounds very nice. So do you ! :D:D:D

At least in Thailand the bank still will give you money. In australia a very big bank refused to give me cash for $8000 which I wished to take to the other bank next door as they said I had to give 24 hours notice as they did not keep cash or use a draft which costs money and takes 4 to 5 days. They didnt like it though when I got a draft for the $200000 in the bank made out to the bank next door

I was in the Kasikorn in Ranong a few weeks ago and this young man withdrew a bundle of 1000 Baht notes. I guess you could have put them on your arm from your finger tips to your elbow. I must admit to being fascinated by all this, but the locals didn't seem to find anything odd. At least he had the good sense to sit back down until a couple of friends turned up.
