Which pubs do quizzes on the island? I know of three but am interested in maybe trying some other places depending on the day/time.

Here's what I've got so far:

Bangrak - Bamboo Bar:

When? Every other Friday starting about 20:30.

How long? Five rounds including a picture round and a music round.

Entry fee/prize? Free to play, winning team gets a round of drinks.

Good overall quiz but they only do it every two weeks (next one July 17th). Very competitve between the same 3-4 teams. One of them will make room for you or you can start your own team.

Fisherman's Village - Frog & Gecko:

When? Every Wednesday night starting at 20:00.

How long? Something like 10 rounds including a picture round and music round.

Entry fee/prize? Each team of up to 4 pays 100 baht entry, over 4 pays 200 baht. Winner takes all and that's around 900-1500 baht.

The longest running quiz on Samui according to the ads. The most serious too since there is money involved. A pretty challenging quiz but the same team often wins. Did I mention that the quiz master's wife is on that team? Hmmm.

Chaweng Beach - The Wave:

When? Every Tuesday night starting at 21:30.

How long? Four rounds of which two are picture rounds which are shown throughout the place on their TVs (good for those with less than perfect eyesight).

Entry fee/prize? Entry is free, winning team gets round of drinks.

The most informal. Usually they have a 3 pt bonus for best drawn picture as chosen by the staff - and there's no accounting for taste. Well, I said informal.

Ring Road, by Big C - Irish Times: I think this one has stopped. Anyone know for sure?

Are there any other places that anyone knows of?

Irish Times re-started last night and will be running every Tueday from now on.

As for The Frog & Gecko and in reference to the quiz masters wife, I know this lady and I can assure you she is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met and I don't care who's quiz it was, the fact is she will still probably win !!

Infact, the quiz master tries his best to out-smart her.

I'd be brilliant too if I lived with the person making the quiz each week for the past 6+ years. I'm not actually accusing her of "cheating" but you need to be ethically-challenged not to see how it looks bad to charge money to enter then having a family member win it most the time. :)

I wonder how many husbands have said this :)

Tropical Murphy's have a quiz every Monday at 8.30. I think it's the same quiz master (Johnny O) that does some of the others. We joined last week, came third from about 15 or 16 teams, missed out on the prizes but a great laugh. They have some Guinness promotion too Not serious, plenty of banter and free to enter. Personally I like my quizzes but I have found in the past an entry fee makes the quiz too serious and the focus is taken from having fun to winning.

I was in TM's about 2 weeks ago, saw the ads for the quiz and when I asked the waitress about it she said that they didn't have it anymore. I guess she meant just not that week? Or maybe the quizmaster was taking a break?

I think that Mondays quiz was the first since the low season. I guess it was suspended during the quiet period. It is certainly a regular event now as Johhny was rallying teams for the next week.

by definition knowledge of trivia is not "brilliant" :)
