Deconstructing Jeerawat Na Thalang: Just Making Things Up

The Nation:

What you are at 60 is a measure of what you have achieved in your life. Thaksin managed to garner several billions of baht in his six years in office and is running around the globe to avoid serving the jail term he was given for corruption. Still, who can blame the man? Thai prisons are notorious for bringing out confessions, and no, we are not talking about the mysterious CIA torture chamber that is supposed to be based in Thailand. Water-boarding does not quite seem to fit the character of Thai law-enforcement. The police here have a much better way of getting bad people to spill the beans. Surely Thaksin remembers the 2004 incident when a suspected thief was allegedly administered electric shocks to his testicles. Ouch!

Thaksin garnered several billion while in office and is avoiding jail time for corruption?

Truth translation: Thaksin sold his own business and made his own money and is running away (The next coment has been edited out to comply with forum rules)

The entire column is Soponian in its stupidity.

As The Nation heads for bankruptcy, it seems to becoming more and more desperate everyday.

Desperate measures must be a way of life, because this has been going on for decades throughout most BKK media.

Let me correct that for you, statement of fact, Thaksin's and family's net worth tripled during the time he was Prime Minister amounting to multiple billions of baht both including and excluding the amounts earned from selling of the Shin Group and dividends but also through various other deals and joint ventures, and he is currently in self imposed exile from Thailand where upon his return he would be expected to serve jail time for corruption for which he has already been convicted and furthermore the moment he returns to Thailand he will face additional trials for he additional charges brought against him for other charges of corruption.

The rest of the article are best left to the business of imagination land.

Quote from above: ".....Truth translation: Thaksin sold his own business and made his own money and is running away ..."

Well sounds nice, but it's a lot more complex than this very simple translation.

Perhaps the tranlator might like to check the history of how his "own business" was able to start, including the history of two business start-ups.

"He" might also like to remember that he bypassed the legal system to supervise the death of 2,500 Thai men, women, and children with no access to any form whatever of legal process / justice.

But of course "he" would expect that for his personal situation there would be full on justice closely following all the laws of Thailand and the justice process strictly following the appropriate laws.

Sound to me like a whole lot of severe double standards to me.

Different point: Would someone please comment on what's meant by: ...As The Nation heads for bankruptcy...." Is this a comment about The Nation newspaper or a comment about Thailand?
