Hi

Right now I am on a Non Imm O visa extension (60 days). The original visa was single entry valid for 90 days. I extended it for 60 days, as i am married to thai(wife).

I am planning to apply for 1 year extension based on work permit. The last day on my 60 day extension is august 1st(saturday). But my work permit will be ready only on August 4th. So i need couple of days more just to get the workpermit before applying for 1 year extension

So I believe i can apply for a 7 day extension.. Am i correct?

The fee for 7 day extension will be 1900 Baht right? Or will it be different, since I already applied for 60 days extension? The reason I am asking about the fee is, last time when i went to apply for 60 day extension, there was this British man who was on a 60 days extension(not sure about his visa but probably Non-Imm as he was with thai wife) and he needed 14 more days. My wife overheard the officer saying he can apply for two 7days extension each costing 5000 baht.. Maybe my wife overheard wrong..

so bit confused about the fee part. Please share your thoughts about this

Thanks in advance

Talk with immigration about your problem. Often they only give a 7 day extension when you have a ticket out of the country, but in your case they very well might make an exception.

The fee will be 1,900 baht. That is the price of each extension, regardless for how long.

Screwed!!

I went there today and my application for 7 days extension was rejected. She said i already used one extension(60 days) and cannot do one more extension. Even though i showed the work permit collection receipt form which indicates i can pick the work permit on 4th august.. she say i have to just leave the country and come back again with a new visa

Anyway she asked my thai friend(i went with a thai friend from the company where i am going to work.) to call her evening. she gave her mobile number. she said she will try to help..

I assume either she will offer to get the job done for some undertable cash

or

maybe she will consult with her boss and inform us about the possibilities(in that case she is an angel)

Anyway expecting the worst.. anybody got any suggestion for avoiding a trip out of the country..Being an indian, I dont have the luxury to do a border run or do the visa at KL. I have to go all the way back to India which is just time consuming and expenses

Suppose If i dont leave the country on 1st august and overstay for 3 days... what are my chances regarding the following deeds

1)Collecting the work permit from labour office -- will they not give the work permit saying my visa extension expired and i overstayed??

2)Suppose i manage to get the work permit without any problem at 4th august from labour office. If i go to immigration office,, can i pay the overstay fine and apply for one year extension

These options sounds like the chances are slim.. as they give workpermit whose validity date matches with the last day of visa... but anyway asking you guys opinion about the possibilities.

Share your thoughts

thanks

No to both - you do not have a valid visa so a work permit can not be issued. You can not apply for an extension of stay from overstay status (unless, possibily, there are extenuating reasons such as a holiday). Hope for the best.

How could he extend? He has not mentioned any income or bank deposits that could have been used. He is waiting for employment. The requirement for extension of stay for wife is 40k income or 400k in bank account.

He plans to extend after he obtains the work permit - using income and company paperwork. The normal process for an extension of stay. The visa used can be a non immigrant O or B. But he needs the work permit before doing it.

Update!

Getting ready for the trip to India...

yesterday, the thai friend at the company had a conversation with the lady officer on phone. And two solutions were suggested

1) They suggested to overstay with 500/day fine and come on 4th august with

a)company letter stating 40,000/month salary

:D last year tax statement- 'po ngo dor 91' (which i have as i was working for another company last year before getting fired :) )

c)WORK PERMIT :D

2) An under table option for an undisclosed amount and all the necessary documents. I will be provided with a new visa which will be good for one year. The amount wast to be disclosed today after consulting with her boss

Regarding option 1, the lady said.. she is not sure about the labour office will give workpermit or not . And like expected option 2 was much promoted and favoured by her.

Now my new boss consulted with lawyer and lawyer enquired labour office regarding the chances of getting work permit with an expired visa and as expected they mentioned with expired visa no work permit. Lawyer's advice-- go Under table...Anyway as i am from India, undertable scheme is not something new to me , as for anything related to government matter its too much corruption there. :D

So regarding option 2, i was kind of surprised at the fact that i will be issued a new visa from within thailand as i was under the belief visas can only be issued outside thailand no matter what.. I asked my thai friend to make sure whether the officer talking about "extension or visa". She confirmed that the officer said it was new visa.. My thai friend is kind of new to this visa things. Before applying for extension,I had to practically give her a lecture regarding whats visa, visa extension, non imm o visa etc from my knowledgebase. .So if my friend got it right, i was offered the chance of obtaining a new visa. I still dont know what kind of visa is this..My friend mentioned non -immigrant business visa??

So this morning, my boss called to know whats the "amount" for option 2 and was informed that, her top boss cannot be sure regarding the option 2 , as there maybe some roadblocks ,of which they cannot give any type assurance.

So option 2 was also scraped..

So now going to india

@northerngate-- I will be going to kolkata consulate. They still handle visas. Hopefully they will issue the visa without problems.

Thanks all

A non immigrant visa can be issued by Immigration from a tourist or visa exempt entry with proof of meeting extension of stay requirements. That was probably the original idea - but you already have a non immigrant visa so that may have been the roadblock. Sorry it did not work out.
