hi guys.

I would like some info if possible please.

I have to do a Non B visa run, the last time I did this it was in Laos at the Thai Embassy there. this time I want to drive there, is this possible to do, I mean take the car over the border?

the reason why is That I will drop my son off at his grandparents in Khon Kaen and then My wife and I will drive the rest of the way to Laos as its only a few more hours. if I get there early I can drop the passport of at the Embassy and should be able to collect early the next morning and be back in Khon Kaen a little while later. the drive is not the problem I just want to know about getting the car across and if I can expect any problems by doing this.

the reason I need to do a Non B run is in another thread where I messed up by flying out and forgetting to get my re-entry permit sorted. I feel stupid as it is so we dont need to go into that :)

thank you beforehand for any help that you may give.

I believe it can be done but not worth the time as I recall. There are secure parking areas at the bridge that most people use.

I have seen cars crossing but have no idea about the procedure, probably easier to leave the car in Nong Khai and getting the bus across and then taxi into vientianne, I know they drive on the other side of the road but the traffic is light there so that should present no real problems if you drive across, but I think you need to show the green book etc both ways to show the car is registered and no import duty is needed etc etc etc

There is a bus from the bus station in Udon Thani straight into Vientianne, and the same on the return journey, but probably better to drive straight to the border and jump a taxi on the other side, for a couple of hundred Baht straight to the Consul, then from there into town for the night.
