The best way and for what it costs, far more beneficial and informative, may I suggest considering an MRI Scan.

There is a centre in both K.K and Udonthani, assuming you are living in that area, whichever is more convenient.

MRI scan at Bumrungrad cost 11800-14600 baht at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.

Then there is the doctors fee, 850 baht and the facility fee, 150 baht.

At least this was the price when my husband had an operation after an accident last month.

I don´t know the price for the CT-scan but i think it is cheaper.

The MRI scan is more detailed and makes it easier for the Doctor to set the right diagnose, although it costs a little more.

That is the only prices i know, perhaps someone else can help you with prices in other hospitals.

Comehome and Marshbags: it is not a matter of "seeing more or better on a CT as on an MRI". What does the doctor want to see? Bones, tendons, soft tissues, liquids, ... Depending on what is the suspected diagnoses / the to be shown or excluded condition (and the availability of technology), the doctor will advise the wanted investigation.

All major hospitals can also do a CT. Costs vary very widely from one hospital to another

If a CT has not been recommended by a doctor, suggest consulting one (in appropriate specialty) first

If it has been recommended by a doctor and said doc will review the film then can save considerably on the cost by having just the sdcan and note an interpreation done as the latter often costs as much as the scan. However this makes sense only if you are already under the care of a physician who will review the scan.

Thanks to all respondees information was great and without getting into the "medical" side of things (which I know zilch about) CT has been the latest recommendation.

The reason for asking I will need to have some follow up CT's done and I am just doing a cost analysis of reurning to Oz where all my medical is "free" or having done in KK preferably and sending immages for reading in Oz.

I was aware of the MRI facility in KK but thanks MB also horses for courses as they say.

Initial testing was PET Scan which identified a prob which was fixed clarified by further PET but CT found prob other region and that is now being addressed.

Something interesting came out when I was discussing this with Drs just the other day - At the Calvary Mater Hospital Waratah Newcastle NSW Aust they have a new machine which does a CT & PET Scan together which is what I am booked for next month.

Once again thanks to all, see you soon (nb. I did return to KK last week just for 9 days) cut the grass (no work permit what a devil I am) paid some bills had a few drinks at Rocky's and then back here Oz until end of Sept.

including blood work
