For a new staff I just made the computer ready and get several small problems.

The main software he should use only works if I give him unrestricted login. Is there any way I can give for a software/folder special rights?

It is a pretty old software.

I have simple file sharing, as the file sharing on the network as the user based one made problems 5 times a day. But now the new guy could see all the accounting information and the other salesguys things on the network. Is there any possibility to block everything on the network beside his folder? (or make the network explorer go away?)

You could try a simple way but don't know your exact requirements. It may work or not...

Right click on a folder - Properties

No wouldn't help

I have one computer which has the shared folders. Every guy on the company has his shared folder, so I need to make only 1 backup. Everything is concentrated on one computer.

So I can't disable that. I just want to make that he can't connect to someone else folders. That does not need to be top secure. If he just can't find the network folders it would be sufficient.

While I put his network folder per shortcut on the desktop.

I did disable the USB ports in the bios so at least he can't copy the things.....

I am using this program Network Magic

It was acquired by Cisco. Download a free trial and check whether it can do something for you or not.

I can do this with Linux, not sure here though, but why not, as admin/root, restrict his intranet access?!

That way you can turn it back on when ya do backups.

Or make each folder p/w or ip/mac protected?

I made each folder protected. But it seems that it doesn't work perfect under winxp. Random it refused to let the legit people in. Not often, but from time to time, which always ends that I need my attention.

Unshare the folder and share it again is the solution on winxp.....
