Bumrungrad's Healthy Living Club

I've used BRG for 5 years and have been generally happy with their care, mostly preventative - check ups, etc.

More expats I know seem to be switching to Samitivej, but this Healthy Living Club might give me a reason to stay with BRG.

Has anyone joined this?

I haven't joined it but it doesn't look bad at 6,300 baht for 3 years and you get a coupon worth 6,300 baht for your next annual checkup. That covers the current cost of the Executive Checkup (male).

Pity the card doesn't offer discounts at a fitness centre.

Personally, I quite like Samitivej, but it isn't so convenient to get to. On the other hand, that may be why it isn't so crowded.

Yes I'm a member. Recently had surgery and got a discount on that which made it more than worth it's while. I would still have gone to Bumrungrad without the membership, so it was a nice saving for me. As well as the usual membership they also send you a bunch of extra discount coupons on your birthday to use on various services like dental.

Member as well, also got second card for wifey. I was in need of a checkup so figured there is no harm and been happy with the discounts so far.

The fact is BRG is just too expensive for many of us poor ex-pats. An Auzze friend of mine had a detached retina op there which worked out more than double the same op in Ramkamhenge. Also, the same surgeon was recommended to my friend. I have heard complains from many people about getting repeat appointment can be difficult(that was when times were good).

I was at Bumrungrad yesterday. They told me there is a "Stop Cancer" event on (I think) August 28 and 29. If you buy the card plus a checkup package then you get an extra 10% off the checkup in addition to the 6,300 baht coupon. The card is valid 3 years. You can make use of the checkup anytime in the next 12 months. Sounds like a good deal to me. Apparently Samitivej has a similar card.

I signed up at the Stop Cancer event today - it finishes tomorrow. Basically, the 6,300-baht card is free if you sign up and pay for one of the annual check-up packages, but the check-up must be done within the following 3 months (not a year as I was previously told).

In addition to the regular discounts, I got a bunch of discount vouchers, eg. 800 baht off an exercise stress test, 800 baht off an echocardiogram, 2,000 baht off laser bleaching, 400 baht off dental care service up to 1200 baht, 20% off flu vaccination, 10% off Vitalife Fitness Center membership, free exercise session at Vitalife, etc. I also got a free cordless electric kettle for using Citibank card.

The Samitivej program is called "Chivawattana", and has various levels depending upon budget and desired benefits. Before I signed up for my Chivawattana diamond membership card, I guess I should have benchmarked it against Bumrungrad's offering. However, at that time, which was before Bumrungrad's new wing opened, I'd heard several stories of long waits at Bumrungrad, and that coupled with the traffic congestion aournd Soi 1-3, led me to opt for Samitivej which is closer to where I live anyway.

I was in there this past week and was a little pissed off when I went to sit down and was told it was reserved for VIP's. It made me wonder if the VIP's actually paid like we did. Other than this, I have been happy with the membership.

Do they give any discounts on Burkas or maybe a copy of the Koran?...........I would never go back to that Hospital having just had to spend the better part of two months there it is a horrid place and in my opinion it is a giant money grubbing machine......BNH or St Loius for me peroid..........

Out of curiosity I clicked on the website. My comment:

- Pay 6300Baht, get a check up worth 6300Baht. You can get full check ups and total professionalism at many government hospitals at less than 1,500Baht.

- Lots of discounts, many of which many people would never use

- By the way I notice they have a McDonalds store in a heavy traffic area. If they are promoting healthy living why do they allow McDonalds on their premises.

But I should be honest I'm rather negative about this hospital. My family had had several bad experiences and we don't go there any more.

In my experience the big private hospitals in Bangkok include an ultrasound of the upper or whole abdomen for the 6,xxx baht that you don't get with cheaper checkups. But for sure they are more expensive than government hospitals in general.

And many government hospitals can also do the full ultra sound.

For folks living near Pattaya, the Sri Racha government hospitals can do all of this and they are totally professional, their specialists all speak advanced English, are very friendly, good listeners, and encourage two way discussion, and they have all the state of the art equipment. Costs are just a tiny fraction of the so called '5 star' hospitals.
