just wondering what people out there reckon is the best way to search for work - is it through websites or direct contact?

what are the best websites? i've always used ajarn, but there must be other websites to find decent work out there.

also, as a phd grad would you give me any extra advice for finding work? i've found uni's have only very poorly paid jobs, and normal work places don't seem to be interested in this. is this your experience too? maybe i'm applying for the wrong jobs.

Where I work a Ph.D. doesn't usually (if ever) add anything to the salary. Experiences count, but the Director always says, I only need a Bachelor's Degree, so that's all she'll pay for! Make no mistake, however, credentials certainly don't hurt in the job hunt and likely will bump the salary up a little, but not necessarily a lot.

If you post a little more information about yourself, it might be helpful. What's your degree in? What are you looking for? Where do you live/want to work? Etc.

Best of luck.

If you're at a university and teaching in your field a Ph.D. should make a difference, even in a government university I think. Try private universities and those running international programs for better pay, but look for something in your field to make the qualifications count.

I too am looking for a teaching English job. I have today's Bangkok Post but have not seen many jobs in there but there are a couple so worth a try for 30THB.

Ideally I want a one, two or three day a week gig but don't see many like that advertised.

Any tips? I've done a short TEFL course and have a Bsc.

Thanks.

Khon Kaen Wittayon school, Klam Muang Road, Khon Kaen 40000, are looking for 2 part-time teachers. One to do 18 hours per week and the other position to do 20 hours per week. Loads of school holidays and good pay. It's just been advertised in Arjan.com if you care to take a look.

Most schools in Chiang Mai don't advertise their positions on the internet. They close their eyes, count to ten and hope someone walks through the gate - they usually do.

Mate. That's a full time teaching job unless its just over 3-4 days. 18 to 20 contact hours is pretty normal over a 5 day week.

If you are only looking to work 1-3 days a week try a language center. You probably will not get a Non B or WP, but if you already have your Visa sorted, this may be a good option for you. The best jobs are gained through word of mouth, but you have to be here for a while in order to network.

Most contracted jobs will require between 14-18 contact hours a week. Many schools like the Govt. school i work for are very flexible, meaning that if I have no classes scheduled, I do not have to be there. Different schools have different policies. Good Luck!

It reminds me of the school that offered 20K per month in Chiang Mai for teaching about 18 hours in 4 days of the week. Crap pay. And before that, a part time job 3 days a week 11 km outside Chiang Mai for 200 an hour

I know that school. It's the director that's the problem. She comes from a wealthy family and is surrounded by Thais who don't communicate reality to her. As a result, she feels all the schools problems are a result of other people's mistakes. Everyone there knows the truth and are just waiting for her to retire so the school can be run effectively.

Do you know of any good languages centres? Got any tips on networking?

Cheers.
