I tried to use search but could not find any previous thread on this subject.

Currently I have a work permit sponsored by my company.

My wife & son will be relocating to join me on a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa issued by the local Thai Consulate in Hong Kong.

Upon their arrival my company will apply for a one year extension of their VISA.

I've read in some guides that my wife can also apply for a work permit base on the work permit sponsored by my company, is this true?

thx/Frank

She can get a work permit if the company can meet all the requirements. The only visa requirement is that it be a non immigrant visa which is what she will have when she enters the country.

Not sure if I understand your question. If she is to work for your company also, she can get a Work Permit. A work permit is tied to the job and you can only apply for one when you have found a job. A work permit doesn't allow you to work in general. If you lose your job, you need a to find a new job and ask for a new work permit.

But on her visa she can look for a job and ask for a WP if she finds one.

They can apply for one year extensions of stay if you are on a one year extension yourself but that has nothing to do with company. They do that with proof of relationship and your extension of stay.

She will not be working for my company.

I forget the name of the BKK guide but it was the 17th edition written/created by Austrailian Women's Club (I think). It specifically mentioned that wife can obtain work permit on a Non-Immigrant O VISA as long as the husband has a work permit.

I don't think it matters if you have a work permit or not. In order for you to get your extension of stay you will need a work permit anyway, She will get her extension as your dependent based upon your extension.

The advantage in her case would be that she would not have to meet the requirements to get an extension of stay based upon employment so she would not be bound by the minimum salary rule needed to get an extension.
