Dear all,

I am looking for some information about how to do a visa for my girlfriend.

I have a work permit and non-B visa and job in Thailand.

We are both foreigners and we have a child. At the immigration office we were told that my child gets the visa easily.

For my girlfriend they don't want to give one.

Was anyone in the same situation and can give me some advise (except of marriage) ? We don't like the idea to get married just because of some visa issue.

Thanks

Harpune

Is the child going to get an extension of stay from immigration based upon you having an extension of stay based upon employment (it is not a visa)?

Or do you have a multiple entry visa?

If the child gets an extension then it is possible she could get a multiple entry visa to visit her child. She would have to make border runs but that is the best she can get in this situation.

Edit: Another option is that if the child was old enough to attend school then the child could get an extension for school and the mother one based upon the child attending school. This would require her to have 500K baht in a Thai bank for 30 days prior to applying for the extension.

The child is 5 month old. Born in Thailand and currently in our home country with its mother. I will go home for holidays tomorrow too. So till now the child hasn't got a visa at all. We will go to the Thai consulate or embassy in our home country. When we called there they said they will give my child and my girlfriend a non-o right away. I am currently not sure which kind of non-o they will give us, multiple or single.

The problem will start here in Thailand when we like to extend etc. at the immigration. First the immigration told us that they have to apply for non-b in our home country. Which would be nonsense what also the consulate mentioned. This week i asked and they said "Don't mind just bring any kind of non immigrant visa" when I mentioned the consulate answer. It seems that they just don't know how to handle, because it is not an usual case.

For us it would be OK if just my girlfriend has to leave the country every 90 days. We would just do some weekend trips and that's it.

As i thought till know a child just needs loving and caring parents. Times are gone where non married parents get pointed with the finger at.

Whether she can get a multiple entry visa will depend upon where you apply for it. If you are in Europe or North America there are several honorary consulates where she cam get it without a problem.

If you are on an extension of stay then I would only get a single entry for your child and apply for their extension after you get here.

I was not pointing finger so much as I was commenting on your "visa issue" appearance of being more important than child. You mentioned it so believe comment was warranted.

And yes; fingers do get pointed - especially here in what is basically a very conservative society. Even more so in many other countries.

We will try to get the one year multiple in a consulate. If we get it anyhow we have our freedom for the next 12 month. If they give us the visa only till my one has to be renewed we have to see further when we come back.

@lopburi3

The visa issue is important because of the child. It should grow up with both parents around. First I always want to try the official way. We would have a lot of other possibilities to get a visa or to handle the situation. Enrol in university and get a non-E, get a job in a different country (lets not over react :)) or non official ways. But as I mention I like to get it in the normal way, if there is one.

Buy the way I encountered no finger pointing here. My girl friend is always called "my wife" no matter how I try to correct it :D From my collegues, the nurses in the hospital she gave birth etc. Meanwhile I also just call her "wife" when I introduce her because there seems to be no real difference in meaning here. Once i talked to friends about this "girlfriend/wife" thing. For them it was just clear. "You life together long time, have baby, so calling her wife is ok... don't mind" Its one of the things I like... this simple pragmatism. Maybe there is no pointing because we are foreigners and our relationship structures aren't understand like I don't understand local relationship structures.

For the child, yes, it's easy. It's 2.20

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/post-a70477-.html

For the mother, try the non-imm multiple entry from your home country. Good for one year and cheap.

After, tourist visas from Vientiane?

Or another 1-year multiple entry from abroad?

Check 2.24. I don't know if the Thai version write THAI child or not. But that's only for 60 days. Immigration offices beside Bangkok and maybe Pattaya will probably not know how to handle that.

Another option, she finds work as a volunteer with work permit and no salary. For a foundation. 1 year. This needs some special authorization but it can be done.

Some schools can give her a 1 year visa too. But think about the 1 year multiple entry, and next year, think about another solution!

Good luck,

S.

Thanks Isaanlawyers.

We will give it a try. As you mentioned there are many possibilities.

Actually I can't understand why it is such a big deal. She will not occupy a work place. She will leave money here. We have health insurance etc. No risk and burden for the nation.

One thing the which was mentioned "If we would allow, anybody would take some woman here" I just thought "Yes this is the genius way how to get a visa for a foreign women... find an expat... let him make you a baby... and the dream of a visa comes true"

Thai law doesn't recognize common law relationships for visa purposes. :)

Note that I said honorary consulate. If it is an official consulate it will be the same as an embassy.

If she gets a multiple entry she will be good for almost 15 months if she does a border run just before the visa expires and gets another 90 day entry.

As said you don't have many options for the child's mother. Working or going to school herself are probably the only ones that will get her an extension.

I don't believe the study Thai option has been mentioned and that would seem to fit well as she would not have to make any border runs and be learning the language (if you are in a location where it is practicable to attend class).
