Just a reminder to people who don't think about this often enough, but regular denim jeans will do fark all in the event of a crash or a slide at speeds higher than 30-40km/h.

I dunno Livin... the some Thais seem to think that boxers are adequate protection on a scooter :)

Perhaps we should bow to their wisdom and experience?

No doubt buying stuff overseas is cheaper straight off the bat, but by the time you factor in shipping, and the often randomness of your parcel getting pinged by customs, it almost works out the same. And yes, items shipped by USPS will also get picked up. I have ordered a few items from the UK and Europe - these were bulky items, and surprisingly were delivered right to the door. Go figure...

I'm wearing a mesh jacket with hard armour in the elbows, shoulders and something a bit softer in the back - planning to replace this jacket soon with another mesh one, but with slightly better protection.

Komine armoured mesh and cordura touring style pants, Sidi Vertigo air boots - these are remarkably cool. Cooler than my half length XPD boots.

Gloves are Taichi Leather (perforated with carbon protection). Shoei Helmet (don't worry penny pinchers, i didn;t buy it here...:s).

FWIW - granted, the pants and jacket are quite a bit more costly to buy here, but IMO, unless you KNOW which size you want, and are prepared to work the customs hassle, or are travelling abroad soon - just look around - try Panda rider or Paddock - Dirt Shop had some decent deals recently - nice ppir of Komine touring pants with knee sliders.

I also have some perfed leather pants and jacket for anything more serious than touring. Sorry, leather too hot for me to tour in. Except during winter months.

Finally, the price of the boots and gloves from Paddock was just as cheap, if not cheaper than it was to buy from anywhere else.

I also use a coolmax style balaclava. It makes a big difference - for a while at least, if I wet that down before using it - the evaporation factor helps.

There are some cooling vests around that some people have bought - I'm sure they're somewhat effective as well.

I usually wear a coolmax style t-shirt under the jacket too - but I'm not convinced it's any cooler than a normal cotton t-shirt..Why? The evaporating sweat fro mthe t-shirt helps cool - the cool-max one, while being a bit more comfy on the skin, tends to dry quick - and then you are just getting the hot air blast - again, depending on how/where/when you are riding.

Cheers...

Loads of folk who come touring with us get their mesh armour from eBay. I'm often amazed at the prices they pick stuff up for. I used a place in the market over the border at Mae Sai; RJays armoured 3M Scotchlite jacket with zip-in waterproof liner 3,000b. Usually retails for around 7,000b in-country,....

Yes, I've seen some very cheap gear on ebay, most of it being located in China. Do they have any MX protection gear in Mae Sai?

I've been so impressed with the jacket this year will be popping back for the pants mid Oct, though admittedly it's never been 'tested'.

The proof is in the pudding, it's alright buying fake jeans, but with protective gear the quality is important. It's possible that it's come from the 'back door' of the factory or is seconds that is supposed to have been destroyed. It would be good to find out.

Kirky...Who in their right mind would wear Yellow Corn. They look like the motorcycle version of a hairdressers car.

You mean kinda like a Tiger Boxer...?
