Ioniser

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a simple ioniser. Tried Paragon, Central etc - only have air filters with ionising capability - just want a simple ioniser like this http://www.amazon.com/Heaven-Fresh-XJ-2000...d=2ECQDSUVX7TD2

Any ideas? Don't want to order from Amazon as I suspect the package will be big enough to attract Customs attention. - Maybe it could be classed as a medical device and as such may be free from duty - but don't know for a fact.

Having used such units 30 years ago (they have not changed) would not consider a unit without an air cleaner of some type attached to it. If just spread in room the dirt will get and cling to everything. It is amazing how much gunk it gets but the clean up is impossible. Am happy to use a fan HEPA type system these days.

A regular fan system with a HEPA filter is a much better way to go. Ionizers "ionize" the air meaning they create ozone. Ozone is an irritant.

Thanks to all for replies. As a result of input I think i know what my best option is.

I was aware of ionised dirt sticking and this was a reason for not trying before - maybe why they are so readily available. I need ioniser for Seasonal Affective Disorder (winter depression) so it is the negative ions that I want. Reccommended for SAD sufferers (yes I get it in Thailand because of short daylength) and I noticed how good I feel by the sea or in the mountains.

SO - it looks like a filter ioniser is the way to go. If I import from China the price is still not that far behind the Bt5,000 I can buy for here with zero customs pounce risk. Also have to think of inconvenience of replacement filter cost/import.

SO It seems my best bet is to buy the Bt 5,000 air fileter/ioniser locally - arguably a high pemium for convenience vs the Bt23980 Chinese option.

For sure buy locally if you can.

Medical devices are not exempt from custom duties and worse yet, may be referred to the Thai FDA for clearance which is tantamount to falling into a black hole for at least 6 months, during which time you have to pay a storage fee.

In addition there is a whole other time-consumuing and costky approval process for anything electrical.

Speaking from painful experience.
