"THE ANNUAL CHIANG MAI MUSIC FESTIVAL

Dear Music Lovers and Friends

As many of you will know already, the Chiang Mai Music Festival has been a regular and important feature in the calendar of this wonderful city for four years, bringing simply beautiful classical music to thousands of people in the Chiang Mai area and beyond. What many of you will not know is that the Festival relies a great deal on goodwill as well as on the many very generous donations in kind from a number of very valued sponsors including local hotels, restaurants, individual supporters, notably including Yamaha, all of whom have helped to make this Festival the success it deserves. We are eternally grateful for all this support and generosity and hope it may long continue.

However, the Festival now needs a cash injection in order to defray the ever increasing expenses of running this event. With this in mind, we are forming a new group of supporters to be known as Friends of the Chiang Mai Music Festival. We urge you to join by following the attached instructions in order to help us bring more beautiful music to the Chiang Mai community. On the enrolment sheet you can read about the benefits of this organization which, in a nutshell, are to help raise some of the much needed cash but also to provide such supporters with a range of private recitals and other privileges as recognition of support.

We need to raise the sum of $5,000 (US) over the next year in order for the Festival to survive.By joining the Friends group, you will be making a great contribution towards that goal, and a range of membership options is available on the attached sheet. Alternatively, you may just wish to make a cash donation without membership, and this would be greatly appreciated. The co-founders and volunteers are already working extremely hard to find other sources of cash, but in this period of economic downturn, this is a long uphill struggle. This, and other efforts to raise money as well as donations in kind will continue and we now urge you to help us by making a donation or better still, by joining the Friends.

Once again not all of you may know that the Festival is totally non-profit making, with no fees or payments to the artists and their tutors and all events are free and open to the public in the Chiang Mai community and beyond. In this respect, the Festival is most unique and we hope to continue to serve you for a long time in the future. Plans now well formulated for February 2011, subject of course, to a generous response to our appeal.

Due to these financial challenges the Chiang Mai Music Festival will take a one year moratorium and will not be take place in 2010. However, firm plans are underway for a robust return in February 2011.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to the Festival once again"
