Can you please help us out guys?

Thanks and have a nice Sunday!

What kind of pet do you have? Dog? Cat? and how big?

How long will you be staying? Let me know and maybe I can recommend a few

Hi,

Sometimes you think you know something that nobody wants to know and then...!

I visited lots of guesthouses and hotels in Chiang Mai and the only place that mentioned it was 'Come On Place', in the south-west corner of the moat, near to Suan Buak Haad Park....

see info on this page: http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/come-on-place.html

and the map on this page: http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/hotels...chiang-mai.html (number 12 on the list).

There's an area where i think the dogs can hang out and meet other dogs...the 3rd picture.....it's not budget - 800 baht, but there is breakfast included.......

One other place off the top of my head is a place that has the owners dogs running around and there's plenty of space...they might let you as long as your dog doesn't eat theirs (theirs were small!).... Gong Kaew Huen Kum

http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/gong-kaew-huen-kum.html

map on this page: http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/chiang...uesthouses.html (number 40) - i didn't see the rooms here as they were full, i just saw the dormitory....but the garden area was nice....

One more place that might, I say coz the lady is really friendly and i think she might just say yes! - Napas House http://www.thailand-travel-help.com/napas-house.html number 8 on the same page as the previous guesthouse.....this place has simple, nice rooms for only 150 to 200 baht...there's little room for a dog to run around but if the dog sleeps at night....

Have a nice time,

Iain

Time to resurrect this thread...

I'm moving to live in Chiang Mai and looking for place that allows me to keep my pet cat (1 only) with me, while I search for permanent accomodations.

Other than the few listed here, are there additional places (hotels, serviced apartment, guest house etc) anyone can recommend? I actually prefer serviced apartments, but for my cat's sake, I will consider hotels/guesthouses etc

I've never stayed in hotels/services apts with my cat before. Can anyone share their experience staying there with their pet cat (or dog). I mean are you not worried that the cleaning staff leaves the door open when doing room-cleaning and the cat/dog sneaks out and gets lost etc? Do you make it a point for room cleaning to be done when you are around?

Or maybe I should put my cat in a pet hotel (that will be first time I do that) and stay somewhere else myself, while I search for permanent accomodations? Any views?

I've stayed in hotels several times with two cats, but not in Thailand.

For starters, I was upfront with the hotel staff because I knew the cats would be yowling in unfamiliar surroundings. So,they put me in "less desirable" locations, i.e. rooms near the ice machine, elevators, etc -- rooms they usually rent out last because they can be a bit noisy. I brought their normal food, food bowls and some water from home. Also their regular plastic litter pan and cat litter, although that may not be realistic here. (Pet shops here have cat litter, but it doesn't look like the stuff in our home country.) I tried to stay with the cats as much as possible, ordering in food rather than going out at night. During the day I put them in the bathroom, with a sign on both the bathroom door and the door to the room telling the cleaning staff not to clean the bathroom. Here you'd need a sign in Thai, but it's not safe to assume that hotel cleaning staff will be able to read. It might be best to talk with the head of housekeeping, also. Of course, if you plan to stay very long you'll probably want to have the bathroom cleaned and will need to make arrangements for it to be done when you're around.

Once I stayed in a hotel for a couple weeks with the cats. Boy, they were ready to go when it came time to check out, because the place was really boring for them. They actually jumped into their cat carriers, settled down and looked at me as if to say "we're ready to blow this joint!"

Thanks for the pointers! I will make it a point to have the room cleaned when I'm around. I think that should be easily arranged. I'm worried though that housekeeping staff may enter the room for some reason or other, later in the day when I'm out. I guess I will have to confine him to the bathroom when I'm out of the hotel.

I'm undecided about staying at Flora House and Come On Place as they are all single-storey blocks with expansive garden grounds. My cat will be lost if the door is left open. A regular multi-storey hotel block would be safer as my cat doesn't take elevators on his own  Unless he sneaks down an open staircase :ermm: Looks like I'm left with Loft Residence, which looks pretty decent from the website pics. Anyone stayed there before and can comment?

Yes, escaping cats would be slowed down a bit in a multi-story building, but not free of danger. I know of one cat that fell from a balcony in a high rise condo, saved only by falling into the shrubs on the pool terrace. He wandered around the hallways of the pool level for a long time while his frantic owner looked on her level of the building.

Also, they can learn to use elevators. The resident cat at The Dome Residence is quite adept at riding the elevators, but he's had much practice. Basically, he waits at an elevator door and enters the elevator with a passenger and then stays on the elevator as long as someone is using it. Once the last person leaves, so does he. I suspect he's been "trapped" in an empty elevator and learned that he must have a human escort. He rides the elevator with much confidence, seemingly enjoying the experience.

That's a clever cat!

As an update to this thread, Loft Residence informed me that they have a no-pets allowed policy.

An alternative I'm looking at is to buy a cat cage (preferably collapsible and can go into a regular car boot) soon after my arrival. That way I can lock up my pet cat when I'm out house hunting. I'll probably only use it during this period, but its better than taking the risk of losing my cat. Anyone with suggestions of pet shops selling such cages?

I had a shitsu puppy, and I really did not have trouble taking him into motel/hotels with me as long as I showed the cage to the staff while booking. Of course I didn't use the cage, and the dog was fine, and so were the staff and owners.

Hi,

Was just writing a reply to your pm. But will post it now on the forum. :)

There is one petshop, called Ran Raksat Overseas Petshop, on the Superhighway in between the Carrefour and the Makro. They have these wire cages and quite an assortment on cat food and toys.

There's another one in the parking lot of Airport plaza. Ran Raksat used to have a branch at that place, but there's a new owner now. I haven't been there myself since, but heard that also the new owner has a good assortment of pet products.

I'm sure there are more pet shops that sell these wire cages, they are quite common. Just look for Pedigree dog food banners, big change there a pet shop behind that banner. (not that I would recommend to give that kind of food to a dog ;))

Hope this helps. :)

Regards,

Nienke

P.S. If you are ever in need of boarding your cat due to circumstances, although my place is called LuckyDogs (after my late boxer Lucky), I do cat boarding as well. Just to let you know.

May I know how big is your cage? Presumably it can fit into your car?

You've been very helpful indeed B)

Yes, I know you run a pet boarding place. In fact, its in my "To Do" list to check out your place. I've never boarded my cat and always used pet sitters when I'm travelling. But once I relocated to CM, I guess I may have to use pet boarding instead. However, I'll try to avoid pet boarding on arrival to CM as I imagine the relocation will be stressful for my cat and prefer to keep him with me (He grew up and practically spent his entire 10 years in my current home).

Directions to the Ran Raksat Overseas Petshop will be appreciated. I'm familiar with Makro and Carrefour on the Superhighway but have never noticed any pet shop along that stretch. The Airport plaza pet shop would be easy to find. If I remember correctly, there's also another small pet shop in basement level of Kad Suan Kaew but they have limited range the last time I visited.

This information is four years old, so take it for what it's worth:

When I arrived in Chiang Mai, I stayed at Flora House ( http://www.florahouse.4t.com/index.htm ) with my four cats. They were willingly accepted and seemed to enjoy it, a biggish condo-like place with plenty of room for them to run and play.

/ Priceless

I emailed them and they confirmed pets are allowed. When you were there, how did you ensure that the cats are safe and sound when you are out?

p/s: btw, mine is a ragdoll too.

Yoohoo! That must sound like music in Priceless ears! Another ragdoll lover. :D

Giibaht, I was/am aware that you don't want to board your cat, and I understand and respect that. That's why I first sent you the pm with the info on the pet friendly places. :)

I simply agreed with the manager and the cleaners that they would only enter when I was there. Fairly easy, actually.

BTW, here's my blue bicolour, from my own breeding:

(I have a blue colourpoint, a seal colourpoint and a seal mitted as well.) If I am right, your arrival will increase Thailand's Ragdoll population by about 15%! Do send me a PM if you have any cat-related (or other) questions, I may have answers for many of them.

It was a fairly small cage for a smallish dog/cat and it fit into the trunk of the car. All places were comfortable with the cage when we showed it to them.

That's a handsome ragdoll you've there! ;)

I actually raised my concern to Flora House about my cat being lost, and they assured me that has not happened before for guests with pets. That's good to hear. I'll probably stay there, unless I come across something better.
