One of my favorite bloggers has packed up and left and I'm starting to wonder if they're worth the trouble.

I can only assume that the 107... at this stage, who read the poll without voting aren't blog people either.

Oddly enough there was a recent thread about adjusting to village life, that I was contributing to. When someone asked for some village type pictures, I offered up my blog site as a source of pictures. Well, with the urging of the OP I ended up getting a huge surge in hits to my site. For the most part they were scouring the archives and not just hit and run visitors. My guess is that if one posted blog entries in the General forum, with a catchy title, you would get a fair number of readers. Post the same thing on the blog page and you would get nothing. Go figure.

I think that most people miss them. I put the poll here because I some how assumed that the contributers would be slightly more literate than those in General.

I realise a lot of people read the blogs and don't partake in the forums, most of the TV blogs have several thousand hits which theoretically works out at two or three hundred readers an entry.

I suppose I was just trying to work out who read them rather than how many.

Of course it could just be the "ignore the newby" syndrome taking over. :)

I know they are there, can't say I really know why they are there, visited one or two but, to use that #1 hated expression, at the end of the day (aaaarrrrgghhhh!) there's only so much of my life I'm prepared to fritter away in front of a computer.

I might, due to this prod, wander in there and see if there's anything that interests me.

I suspect that many of those "hits" on the hit counter are just random search programs that pass by very quickly without actually reading anything. I allowed link-backs briefly and they all ended up being links to sex sites so I deleted that function. I believe the spam factor is the reason they don't allow guest comments.

Eh, where are they, post a link?

:)

If you're not already inundated with them, you're doing something very wrong.

I don't know about the others, but sceadugenga's blog is well worth reading. He has a way with the written word! :)

Can't count on doing this on a regular basis, I would suspect. I once made a reference to my blog (non ThaiVisa), and got my post deleted and my wrists slapped.

Thanks General, most kind of you.

I wasn't particularly promoting my own efforts as much as trying to encourage new contributers. I think that most of the blogs are valuable guides to living in Thailand and getting to know and understand the Thai people.

The forum seems to have divided themselves into two camps, the Thai-bashers and the Thai-huggers, where as sensible chaps like ourselves judge everyone as an individual, and it's the individuals I like to write about.

Toptuan, I know a number of people, including myself, who contribute to several sites. Why don't you put your blog entries on ThaiVisa as well?

There is a lot of worthwhile reading, but, I've been on a diet for a week and your blog is helping me stick to it. :)

What happened to the 'blogs are masturbatory self indulgence' option?

I suppose that if you wrote solely about yourself it may fall into that category.

Most bloggers record what they see going on around them which can eventually (possibly) make them historically important.

"Masturbatory self indulgence" also invokes a picture of something you enjoy while you're doing it. Writing properly involves a lot of hard work and repetitive editing, particularly if your formal education is limited as it is in my case.

I suggest you try reading a few and you may reconsider your opinion.

I've got to get down to Chiang Mai and see you, I've been running around with <deleted> tourists for the last month... no time for self indulgence!

I'm not sure how to find the blogs any more. (nor members list for that matter)

I have a new header bar at the top of the page and other menues seem to have disappeared. (am I just thick?)

I noticed that this morning. Could be some sort of hidden message in this? :)

They seem to be slowly trying to role out the new software they promised last month. You can still find members, HERE. Or you can do a search form "My Assistant".

I am a blogger and have to agree to some extent. When I write, it is like an itch I simply must scratch. It is nice if others appreciate my prose but that is not the first priority. As difficult as it is sometimes to deal with an uncooperative muse, self-gratification is indeed a part of it.

It's a good thing he started this poll...I would love to read his blog....I was ignorant of it prior.

In the Pub??? :)

Well, you know this site better than I.
