Dear all,

We are looking for a Jack Russel puppy to buy or another family friendly and energetic dog. We live in the apartment (large though) but I am afraid we are not able to accommodate a big dog like Labrador in spite of them being lovely with kids. Also we have a two-year-old son who loves animals but still can not measure his force, so long fur dogs can suffer from him :)

Please advise where we can buy one in BKK (the Chatuchak pet shops being not praised by the expats we know, only the 5th bought puppy survived between being bought and picked up home to Cambodia).

We would prefer to buy form a shop with good reputation and really taking care of its animals or from a person who has puppies to sell, age 2 months approximately.

Also if you own a dog please advise the books to buy highlighting the feeding, socializing, and training the puppy. Any advise is welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Anna

Anna, while more expensive, I do see dogs (of varying types) for sale at a pet shop just past Villa (towards the parking ramp) at J Avenue (soi Thong Lo). This is an upscale area in Bangkok, hence the higher prices, but at least you might inquire in there about where else to buy if you don't see one you like.

Also, you might try the link below which includes some links to various breeders:

Anna I heard that Agro Vet in Phnom Penh is advertising Jack Russells for sale here. I think someone said $400 US....

why not check out the french bulldog that is looking for a home on an other thread here; or try one of the pet rescue sites (there are farang working with pet rescue sites that can help u-- try pm'ing 'elfe' for instance. they might have a medium size smooth dog, vaccinated, possibly neutered, looking for home. if pure bred isnt important to you, this might be a good idea: u can visit, see the dogs, choose one that matches family personality, and probably get continueing advice on raising him/her. while its nice to raise puppies, i can personally say that adult dogs, if they dont have too many 'crazy' attributes, can make great dogs, w/o all the fuss /muss of a young puppy. ive done both, and three out of my five dogs (including the boxers) were adopted as adults.

for a younger child, a puppy might be too much actually (biting, scratching) and a young socialized adult would be a perfect fit.

there were a few other posts here with folks looking to rehome some mixed breed pups;

The last time I checked there was a young, rescued Jack Russell at Soi Dogs & Cats Foundation(SCAD). If my memory serves me right, his name is Cricket and looked really healthy and well taken care of. Their website is scadbangkok.org
