Thai Government Seeking International Help In Capturing Thaksin

I think the folks that blame everything on Thaksin and sing angelic praises of the PAD and Abhisit need desperately to understand your words.

People don't blame everything on Thaksin. That's in your head.

Nor do people sing angelic praises of the PAD. That's also in your head.

Some people simply don't like Thaksin. You seem to have trouble accepting that, and desperately look for an angle to attack back, seeing as you can't defend. There is nothing to attack though, so you end up creating this nonsense in your head.

Ditto.

Some only see what they want to see, and wish to be.

Then put mouth in overdrive and try to talk until

others believe their daydreams. Sadly all too true.

Thaksin is pathetic in his power mad machinations,

but given enough money, he is also sublimely dangerous

for Thailand and even all those who support him so blindly.

I don't hate him, but I would have palpable fear of his

return to power based on his vindictiveness in the past.

Unstable minds in power are anathema and a risk to all people,

regardless of sides going into the game.

He's holding such cards as insurance. {again hypothetically}

Unbelievable there are still people out there that think Thaksin has a trump card up his sleeve that he's been holding all this time, cunningly waiting for the right time to play it.

Thaksin has cried wolf on this one enough times.

How many red rallies did he announce in the build up that during his phone in he was going to reveal a secret that would change everything? Answer: many times. And how many times did he tell us something we didn't already know? Answer: Zero.

I believe though he probably could dish the dirt on a few people. What stops him? Answer: The fact that he would be implicating himself. If there's any dirty stuff out there, you can guarantee somewhere along the line he's tied up in it.

My guess would be that in the hypothetical "capture" by authorities of the present administration, street protests would erupt while he was awaiting trial and "elites" would suffer by being named by Thaksin during trial.

What's stopping him from naming and shaming now then?

This wouldn't be to his political advantage presently. He's holding such cards as insurance. {again hypothetically} Not that revealing info would ever be suppressed regarding said judiciary process.

Oh, he tried this gambit before, named names at Red Rally's,

and no one found it even partly interesting.

Very true. He's done so endlessly. It's always been "next week" or "in 3 days" or "very soon."

The Cambodia thing is seen as damaging to him by certain of his lieutenants but it the other issue that is potantially even worse. Thaksin's latest admission of what he forgot is quite telling.

It is further revealing that reports this morning of his directing his lawyer Noppadon to sue Times Online for defamation. Old habits are hard to break.

You back Jack ?

Cambodia's recent activities with Thaksin really scaring thai gov......i wonder why..

I don't think it's about being scared. He is doing irrepairable damage to the country so something had to give.

They should have done it a long time ago. Get this matter resolved once and for all so the country can move on.

You must be kidding right? The Thai people elected Thaksin and the "other" political party with the help of the military took over when Thaksin was out of the country. The current government is a sham without the people's support. Thaksin is the rightful democratic leader of Thailand. Thaksin's a good businessman and was good for Thailand. Even if he profited from government contracts ............ any government leadership would do the same thing. All politicians are crooks in ALL Countries. I would rather have a good businessman running the country than the people currently in office.

So the offerings for us is a toss-up between the 'old-school' corporate-military-plutocracy and the 'new school' mirror. Same as it ever was.

This thread is about the current Thai government, undemocratic as it may be, attempting to seek international cooperation in their weak pursuit of Thaksin. In reality, not only will they find little international cooperation, but they were not trying very hard to keep Thaksin in Thailand when he was here. They need his diversion to distract from the lack of elections.

Was that not a different government, which was not trying very hard to keep Thaksin in Thailand pre-conviction, from the current government now trying to retrieve him, after he has been convicted.

It is easy but wrong, to blame the current government, for having let him abscond. :)

It is very fun to watch Thai politics! The unexpected is the norm. It is only calm before the storm. Everything is in constant flux and yet never changes.

Very profound.

But do you now accept, it was indeed the previous government which "were not trying very hard to keep Thaksin in Thailand when he was here", and not the current government which is now trying to bring him back to serve his time & complete his several other cases ? :D

Can anyone please SMS Interpol to tell them where Thaksin is now.

Road nr. 1 from Phnom Penh to the ferry of Neak Lueng: 7.09 km out of town (Monivong bridge = Km 0), turn right and follow the road for about 1.2 Km: try to pass the road block and second villa on the right.

For the cruise missile-owners: N 11 31' 03.05" E 104 59' 40.51"

Just use instead of Thailand and Cambodia, France and Germany or Czech republic and Hungary. You would get very similar reactions.

Or think Venezuela makes Bin Laden to his adviser.

Well hang on a minute, Thaksin is not really someone who can be sensibly compared to Bin Laden in that way.

Thaksin is the guy that would probably still win an election if one were held tomorrow, having won the past 3 or 4. He was convicted of fraud, by a puppet-judiciary, and although he is probably guilty of much more, within the circus of Thailand's corrupt political system he was playing by the 'rules'. Joke that it was, Thaksin was Thai democracy personified.

I'm not a supporter, not at all, but I despise hypocrisy in all its forms and everything the power elite have done since the day of the coup in Thailand has been pure hypocrisy. If Thailand's ruling class really believed any of what it is saying they would stop squabbling like hungry seagulls and start trying to solve some of the problems that are plaguing Thailand right now.

Make that 2 and I'd be able to agree with you, about the number of elections he won, if not about his current popularity. :)

If Cambodia doesn't want to arrest him there is nothing Thais or Interpol can do. It doesn't matter if the current government has a good reputation or not. It is like this everywhere.

At the moment in France live a dozen Italian terrorists, convicted of murder. They killed innocent people in the 70s and have been living in France for more than 20 years. Everyone knows where they are but French police refuse to arrest them. France claim that those people were convicted for political crimes (because they declare themselves communist warriors or something like that) and refuses to give them back to Italy.

It is like if Bin Laden lives in Canada and Canadians refuse to extradite him to the US claiming that he was convicted for political crimes.

Leave the poor guy alone for chrissakes

are you calling him 'the poor guy' in relation to money? Yes, he's poorer now than before. main reasons; Government freezing money he unethically and illegally grabbed. Secondly, he has made a bunch of dumb investments in recent years, and recession etc have eaten away at them. So much for him being a business whiz.

If you're saying 'the poor guy' in terms of being hounded. Well, some of us would say he asked for it. He left the country while promising to return. He incessently wants his mug on the front pages of every newspaper. He never misses a chance to state that he's the only savior for Thailand, as if there are no other people who could help Thailand and its people as well as he could.

Can anyone please SMS Interpol to tell them where Thaksin is now.

I'm quite sure Interpol doesn't give a hoot about taking on the Takki case.

where in the world is Thaky?

Answer.....

Last week Twitter reported him as going to Russia, for what it's worth, hope that this time he keeps a close eye on his briefcase, when he visits McDonalds ! rolleyes.gif

Nothing to do with the subject, but just read if California was a country, it would be part of the G-8 (eight largest economies in the world) and it has a larger economy than either Brazil or Russia. So what does that have to do with the price of Takkiburgers? I don't know.

BTW, what's happening with Takki's educational TV station, his scholarship fund, and the dozens of other projects he says he's starting?

Other countries have extradition treaties with each other, real ones, substantive ones. Thailand on the other hand has very few formal extradition treaties with countries and treaties they do have are circumscribed ... by design.

That is why they ask for "help", they don't want to write up and live by a formal treaty of extradition. You make your bed you lie in it. :)

The whole world knows where Takky is. With the amount of money he has, he can do whatever he wants. IF he really wants to disappear, he can have extensive plastic surgery and not even his mom will recognize him!!!

The best way never to hear from him again, is NOT writing about him. No more publicity from newspapers and TV will shut him up once and forever. He is like a movie-star, even bad publicity is publicity!

In some aspects Thaksin is the Thailand's version of the HHGTTG's Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal in the sense that if HE cannot read anything in the newspapers about himself he is convinced he doesn't exist and would immediately vanish in a cloud of smoke.

Thailand was never colonized by Europeans right? Are other nations (in Asia or wherever) that WERE colonized and introduced to democratic government having so many problems? Coup after coup etc etc.

Just wondering .. maybe the answer to all of Thailand's problems would be .. to be invaded. Teach 'em the ropes for 100 years and then hand over the reigns.

Problem is that most of the colonies have gone south after they gained their independence...

you have no clue what you're talking about.

thaksin has done more good for this country than any person before him and likely more good than any person to come.

keep on believing what the current government is saying about him if you like.

Wonderful fan-mail.

No, he hasn't done more for this country than anyone else, that is both catastrophically ignorant and (since there is so many better) partially a LM.

And No, he will not be better than anyone that can come after. That sounds like idol-worship.

Who has done better?

Sometimes, goin' through some of the posts here and elsewhere, the member status of posts, and then I wonder how much his PR-Slot machine is gobbling down everyday... his ego must be larger then the universe and his love for money and power immeasurable larger!

Isn't he in Cambodia?

With all respect; Do they really want to arrest him? Thaksin was in Thailand, already guilty but they let him fly to China to watch the Olympic games? Does that make any sense?

If you look back to Post #405, you'll see that it was a different government and PM, who allowed him to leave, not the current one. Coincidentally, that PM (Somchai) just happened to be a relative by-marriage, of the soon-to-be absconder. :)
