Hey everyone.

First if you are looking to get a Thai tourist visa in Kathmandu you will need proof of a round trip air ticket. It doesn't make sense to me but that is ok. I'm sure the american visa process frustrates many foreigners so this is my chance to get a taste of it.

Second. Now that I can't get a tourist visa (I'm leaving Friday). I will need to deal when I get to Thailand. I am sure that this has been well covered here. Can anyone point me in the direction of what people after the visa waiver?

How long can I stay on the visa waiver until I need to do something? 60 days before I need to travel out of country?

I plan on attending school for TEFL cert but I want to see the school before I attend. So I intend to get a longer stay visa once I arrive. Also I am 41yo American currently in Kathmandu and scheduled to fly Friday morning.

With peace and thanks

On entry you will get a 30 day stay. There is a chance that the airline will not let you on the flight without an onward ticket within 30 days of your arrival date.

and so I must deal with getting a longer stay visa within 30-days.

I will be in Surat Thani Provence. Does anyone have suggestions for traveling out to get my visa?

How do others deal with the need for a return ticket? I'm on the road for quite some time and plan on seeing surrounding countries by bus so even if I were not planning to stay longer on the student visa I would not have a return ticket. I am married (in America) and have an American bank account etc so in my small mind this is kind of illogical.

Your married in America so you don't have to abide by the rules? OK you are also American - with an American bank account. Somehow; as as American, I am starting to understand the stereotyping we receive.

From your previous thread, if you buy an online ticket now, leaving Thailand within 30 days of arrival, to (say) Laos to obtain your planned Non-ED visa then you should not have a problem with the flight to Bangkok.

Hey. Seems that you may misunderstand my point which is that I have no intention of staying in Thailand I have many ties in my country which happens to be America. Here in Nepal many people have asked me to help them leave their country to basically any other country. Many Nepalis are desperate to go to a country with more opportunities (their words not mine). It has been explained to me that I would not have any problem with obtaining my visa from America. If I fly to India I would not need to have a return ticket to get the visa I seek. I assume (but I don't really know) that this is due to various countries populous and their chances of staying and working illegally past their visa. I have been trying to make sense of the way it is working here and also warn others of a potential snag in their plans.

I will add that I have now found that Air Asia offers very cheap flights (some less than $30 american). So if you need a return ticket check them out.

The fact is that the rules are different depending which embassy/consulate you attend. I happen to be in Nepal which seems to be extra strict.

Responding to your assumption about my take on the rules. I try to have total respect for the rules and I also respect that I am a visitor to Thailand and will be mindful of the fact that I am a guest. For me part of respecting others rules is trying to understand them so that I best comply. Sometimes (like today) I do get frustrated because they don't make sense in my mind but this in only me and my struggle. I posted my details so that others might explain the reasoning behind the differences in various Thai embassy.

Often when I am upset by anthers comments or words I (try to) use the moment for introspection typically there is an unresolved conflict in myself that has been triggered by an external source.

With peace,

-T

Ok so I will purchase an air ticket on Air Asia so that I can get my tourist visa. Will I need to be within 60 days or can I do within 90 days of my arrival in Thailand?

TIA

You will get 60 days on arrival and can extend at any immigration office for another 30 days but will cost 1,900 baht for the TM.7 form.

Thanks. I am wondering if my flight out of Thailand needs to be within the 60 days or if it can be within the 90 days which includes the extension?

No problem - even on way travel is allowed on a visa entry.

Hey there. I'm not clear on this. I have been to the embassy here in Nepal and they require proof of an air ticket out of the country in order to obtain the tourist visa I seek. This is not the case in all Embassies just some. In order to assure my visa going through without further hitch I want to know wether I should have my ticket within the 60 period of the visa or wether I can make it for within the 90 visa extension?

As I said - it is not an issue with Immigration or airlines - you are allowed to fly to Thailand on a one way ticket as long as you have a visa in your passport. It is the Consulate that required the onward ticket.

The Thai Emabassy here in Nepal turned me away from getting a 60-day tourist visa because I didn't have an onward flight. I've been told that I can get the tourist visa with a flight that is within the 90-day period that I would have when combining the 60-day tourist visa with the 30-day extension so problem solved! Thanks for your help.
