Hi there,

Does anyone know if a letter of consent to travel to UK is required by divorced parents?

My child is half Thai / half English and lives in Thailand, and he will go for holiday to England on his UK passport.l

Do the UK usually ask for a consent to travel letter from both parents?..as they are divorced?

[wouldn't have thought so as the child is British]

any feedback would be great.

It can't hurt to have a note from the mother saying she allows to travel with the child, it is rearly checked and under Thai law there would not be a problem if you hold shared custody with the mother. Don't know about UK law. Most people seem not to be checked, but some do get checked.

I do recommend to get a Thai passport for the child, for which you do need the consent of the mother. She has to sign the application form as well.

With a Thai passport he can leave and re-enter Thailand as a Thai national, with only a UK passport the child would be considered a foreigner and need a visa for re-entering Thailand, and subsequent extensions of stay.
