2009 Thai Holiday Canceled. 2010 Thai Holiday Planned

Featured Replies

I first planed to come to Thailand in the spring of 2009 but due to the problems going on in Thailand I pushed my visit back to Nov/December of 2009 but in October I only seem to read about more social and political problems going on in Thailand and when I read story after story of how the tourist seem to be targeted by the police... And then my friends who were a part of the "Red Shirt" movement warning me of their plans to mobilize yet again. I decided to cancel my 2009 visit to Thailand.

So I have sold my vacation time back to my employer and put that money in the bank. At the start of the new year I can begin my vacation plans. My "Red Shirt" friend asked when I may return and I suggesting that I may come for a visit in the spring. After High season but before Rain season. I don't want to be there during the water festivals.

My question to you good people here.... Is there any good advice or insight that you can share that would be helpful to someone planing to return for a holiday in Thailand when tourism is low? I plan to stay 3 or 4 weeks and visit Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai if I can get a round trip flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in business class for less than 10,000 baht.

When in Bangkok I like to stay close to Silom. I have stayed at the Silom Regent and the Chinn House (In Sala Deang). I think the Chin House has changed it's name now. I prefer to stay in a serviced apartment with a kitchen, bedroom and living room.

In Pattaya I found that I like to rent a condo with a kitchen.

In Chaing Mai... I just go with the flow but I do like to stay near the Night Market where they have the climbing wall.

do not worry about problems in thailand - they won't affect you, unless you decide to go with your friends on the barricades.

as to police - they are as good as were always before, so if you are not going to seriously brake the law, you are ok, the most a bribe here or there.

book your flights and hotels now, would be cheaper than at short notice

Looking at Nokair's site (nokair.com) a return flight BKK-CNX booked for January/February in Nokair Plus (their business class equivalent) comes out at 6500bt approximately.

Paul you worry too much.

Just get over here and enjoy it. If you look for trouble you can find it.

climbing wall, what climbing wall? did they rebuild it?

Just a update on my travel plans to Thaialnd. I only post this here as some of you may find my thoughts and feelings entertaining.

So lets get on with it. I plan to visit Thailand in October if things continue to remain calm. I choose this time because October seems a very nice time to visit as it is not too cold here in the USA and I would hate to leave a hot jungle and return to a frozen burg. I did it once and hated it so much that I promised myself I would never do it again.

Also the USA is spending so much money and driving up the national debt that I am sure the USD will become weaker, not stronger over time and I think I had better come while I can expect to get a decent exchange for my money.

But the main reason is that my boss is retiring next year and once he goes I will not be able to take extended vacations for a number of years so I must get this one in while the getting is good.

So Thailnd here I come!

I can't wait for the Fruit Shakes, Street Food and Cheap Softwa..r..e..... I mean clothes.. The cheap clothes... :)

If you like to stay in that area of Krungthep and you like apartment living, try here. 75 square metres(807 square feet). It's where I stay when want to stay near the night market area. I like my space. If for a shorter stay book through Wotif or similar.

My other choice for that area is Centrepoint Silom for it's river location and convenience for the SkyTrain.

As for software, try the Internet.
