My Vietnamese girlfriend is coming to Thailand on holiday with me. Does she require a visa?

And what visa would she require to stay in Thailand for periods of 7 -8 Weeks at a time?

I think that you will find that, under the Asean visa rules, your Vietnamese GF does NOT need a visa. My Thai wife and I went to Hanoi a few weeks ago and she did not need a visa while I did. In my wife's case her entry stamp was valid for three months. Mine was for one week.

^yep 30 days on arrival unless you get a visa in advance.

Or she can do border runs every 30 days.

By air presumably?

I would have though by Land or Air under a bilateral agreement.

If your girlfriend wants to stay longer than the 30 days permitted on arrival by air,she will need a visa.I've been through this procedure many times with my Vietnamese girlfriend. She never had a problem getting a tourist visa at the Thai Embassy in Saigon.I supplied her with a letter confirming she was visiting me,and they wanted to see a return air ticket as well. They wouldn't issue a double entry visa,we asked many times and no go.Nor would they issue a 12 month non-immigrant O.(although strangely enough I emailed the Thai Consulate in Hull,UK,and they replied that if my girlfriend was in the UK,they would issue her a 12 month non-immigrant O visa for Thailand, even though she has a Vietnamese passport). This was all 2 years ago,and although she had a total of 5 tourist visas, they were never back to back,as she would go back to Vietnam, stay with her family for a few weeks, and then come back here. She then got an ED visa, which involved quite a bit of paperwork, and needed to be renewed every 90 days at Jomtien

You are correct regarding Hull. Specifically, if the applicant is not in Thailand, then they can apply for a visa from Hull. There is no visa requirement for the applicant themselves to be in the UK but Hull will not post a passport overseas by courier. If you had a contact in the UK who you could trust. Fed Ex there and back and Royal Mail internally within the UK would suffice.

Due to the Bilateral Agreement between Thailand and Vietnam, Vietnamese Citizen always get 30days upon entry, Air and Land, no limit.
