Eric1949 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Anyone really know why the prices of coconuts, in Tescos for instance, go from 8 to 14 baht? They grow all year round, no season, so why should the prices vary so much? They are 14 baht at the moment in Tescos, probably down to 8 again next week!!!!!!!!!!!!
sbk Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Coconuts are indeed seasonal. Some times of the year, the tree's production of coconuts is heavy, other times, the production will be substantially less. The end of the rainy season signals the most prolific period of coconut production for a coconut tree and come the end of the dry season, you will find the tree will produce only a few coconuts.

Also remember that not all coconut's are the same...at least not taste or size wise. Running a street food business and selling the odd nut as well as to the occasional odd nut I can catagorically inform you that Macro sells a much better product than Tesco at about 12 baht to the nut at the present time.
