Complicated question, at least for me.

In September 2009 I received a work permit and permit to stay based on a non-imm B visa I got in Vientiane that same month. By the end of this month I will no longer be working and have to relinquish the work permit and the permit to stay will be cancelled.

Before I arrived in October of 2008, I got a retirement visa in the U.S. (multiple re-entry) and by July of 2009 had a permit to stay extension through July of 2010.

My question is: When my permit to stay based on my work permit/original non-imm B is cancelled and I leave the country, can I come back in on the retirement visa extension? It was never stamped "void".

If I can't can someone suggest the best way to get back into the retirement route?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No. Your retirement is not valid. Your retirement extension of stay was replaced by a work extension of stay and is not valid. Even if they were not an exit/re-entry without a re-entry permit would only result in a 30 day visa exempt stay.

Obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa and return with that - sixty days later apply for one year retirement extension of stay again. If you have a problem getting the non immigrant visa just a tourist visa can be used but would then require an extra 2,000 baht step be done with 21 days or more remaining on permitted to stay and probably have to be done in Bangkok.
