Samui Taxi Drivers... A Different Post About Them !

Why is it when i see some taxi's do they have 2 thais in the front one driving and his friend or ( boyfriend ! ? ) with him . Can these cockroaches not work on there own ? How many times do you get a taxi in the US or europe or Austraila and the taxi turns up with the taxi driver and his friend in it ??? What do they do when they have no fare ( which is most of the time ! ) just sit there holding hands !! ?? These taxi metres should be band from samui. The red taxis can do all what a taxi metre does and more. Does anyone know any of these cockroaches ( taxi drivers ) ?? If so can you ask them why they hate western people so much ?

This is only the guy taxi drivers that drive around with 2 of them in the car !! i have seen some lady taxi drivers and they are on there own... tells you all you need to know about how tough this men taxi drivers are .. plus some of the woman taxi drivers are hot .. does anyone no them ???

The taxi drivers on Samui are by far one of the worst parts of this island...for the most they and their mafi owner are complete scum. Do all you can to never EVER use them and tell all tourists the same and..your friends

They are with two because about every half hour or so they are involved in a dispute with tourist about overcharging. Makes it easier to beat someone up.

The passenger hires the taxi. It is up to him who shares his ride. Not the driver.

As Samui Taxi drivers break every rule in the book I suppose another one doesn't matter.

I cant belive some westerns are sticking up for these taxi drivers. Someone even called me a racist ! haha a person can only be racist to another person ( human ) i dont think of these taxi drivers as humans. They are cockroaches. I am not a racist i dont care were people are from or how they look. But these taxi meter drivers are the scum of the earth. If one of these guys was a on fire i wouldn't even pour dirty water on to help them. These taxi drivers are the racist ones not me. They just over charge anyone who doesnt look thai !

I agree with the post that says all tourists should be warned to stay away from these taxi's at all costs. Maybe we should have expats who live here with cars just help by if seeing a tourist waiting for a taxi to just ask the tourists where they want to go and if the expat is heading there they can take them. Anything to help tourists to stopped getting ripped off and beatin up by these cockroachs that infest this island.

Mate, you need to settle down, compose youself, and construct your complaint in a way that is stating the problems without getting personal.

I have been travelling to Samui for the last 5 years and love the place. It is great. While I, and I am sure many others agree that the taxi drivers on Samui are bad, your arguement suffers when your attack turns personal.

Don't use them.

I think it's fair to say the general consensus is that Samui taxi drivers are an absolute disgrace. They give this wonderful island a bad name with visitors. as taxis are usually the first thing they encounter when arriving.

They overcharge, are aggressive and arrogant.

True. I would say the best advice is to make sure the fee is understood before getting in the taxi and be polite and friendly towards the driver.

Doesn't always work but if the driver is rude or wants to rip me off I simply walk away and take another taxi.

Unsurprising to find rude drivers here, pretty much the same at home. I wouldn't like to put up with some of the late night drunks either.

They overcharge Thai as well, bet them up etc etc.

At least they are not as bad as the tuk-tuk drivers in Phuket.

Correct, we all know they are a disgrace, bad for tourism etc etc but you have seemingly made this personal. I'm not for one moment sticking up for them, but it's not as if they are driving around abusing and terrorizing th general populace! They are operating illegally and ripping people off, so don't use them.

I have a couple of taxi numbers and use the same people regularly who are OK. I suggest you do the same. Not all of the taxis are cockroaches but I agree about the pricing.
