I have a 60 day tourist visa I obtained in Vientiane a couple of months ago for free at the Thai embassy. I want to extend it for another 30 days and am traveling back to Vientiane this weekend.

  1. Does anyone know how I can extend it? Do I have to queue up again with the 100s of others at the Thai embassy in the heat on the Monday morning and collect it on Tuesday, or can I do so at immigration on re-entry in Nong Khai?
  2. It costs 1,000 baht, right?

Thanks.

If you leave Thailand that visa is history. You can extend at an Immigration inside Thailand for 1,900 baht and a photo.

Or you can make your trip and obtain a new visa for a new 60 day stay.

Thanks Lopburi. Ah! I might well not go then. I knew I could extend it but just assumed I had to go out of the country.

Does anyone know if I can extend it i Udon?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if I can get another 60 day tourist visa then, on the back of the one which is about to expire? Or is it only one per person?

You can obtain 30 day extension at local immigration office (apologies, read that was Nong Khai from your earlier post). You should not have a problem obtaining a second tourist visa, although there is a crackdown on issuing too many back to back tourist visas. If visiting Vientiane would suggest you obtain double entry tourist visa if planning to stay a while. Currently free. With extensions and a border run in the middle that would give you nearly 6 months stay.

You can extend your stay for another 30 days at Udon Immigration. 1,900 Baht.

You can obtain another Tourist Visa in Vientienne for fee.

You can even obtain a double entry Tourist Visa for free if you wish.

The choice is yours.

Guys, this is very helpful - and quick. Thanks. Suppose I should have said ... my tourist visa is double entry and i've not used that second entry yet. Sorry for not noting that before.

So, if I DO go to Vientiane this weekend can I assume I will still keep my Thai tourist visa?

Any idea how many months / days I would stamped in for on re-entry?

And to confirm: I can always get a second, back-to-back free tourist visa can I? Or will they turn me down? Or will I just have to re-enter on a 15 day one?

Thanks.

I think a friend of mine is the same......

60 Day (Double Entry) Tourist Visa obtained 6/10/09 in Laos.

Entered Thailand 7/10/09 stamped in till 5th Dec.

Border run on 1/12/09 Return Thailand 2/12/09 stamped in till 30/1/10

I need to stay till 7th March. So If I leave on or before the 30/1/10 is it a border run turn around or do I require another Tourist Visa at the Thai Consulate?

Thanks for your help.

if you are not past the "enter before" date on your visa(the sticker from thai embassy abroad) yet and you haven't used all the entries then you can just leave the country when your permission of stay(stamp that you get when entering thailand) has ended and come back (same day if you like) and get a 60-day permission of stay which you can extend for another 30 days like you have been instructed

I see you only have one tourist visa in your passport? you shouldn't have any problems obtaining another one.

like mentioned you can choose between using the 2nd entry from your current visa by just leaving the country and then coming back or going to the thai embassy in vientiane for a new double entry which would give you almost 6 months of stay from the apply date

double entry means 2 entries :)

he came to thailand on oct 7 and dec 2 so that's 2 entries

he can extend his 2nd entry for 30 more days which would get his permission of stay until ~29 february.

if he needs to stay until 7th of march he could just do a border land by air or land after that and get either 15days(when arriving by land without a visa) or 30 days (air, same deal)

would get him until the 7th of march that he wanted

So, if I was to enter Vientiane this weekend and return on Monday (in and out, all applies as per your first paragraph) I would get an additional 60 days stamped at Nong Khai immigration and there's no need to go to the Thai embasy, right? Do I have to pay for this? 1,900 baht?

If I did this, I assume I could then apply for a 2nd tourist visa in VTE in 2 months time, right? On the same deal: 60 days, extendable for another 30 for 1,900 baht at immigration?

I don't see how it gives 'almost 6 months from apply date'. I have had 2 momths already. I can renew NOW at the embassy for another (free?) 2 months, then extend for another 30 days? That's 5 months ...

All a little complicated.

Thanks.

If you exit the country your existing visa will die, and you would be stamped in for 60 days if you obtain new visa from consulate, or 15 days on visa exempt entry at land border crossing.

To get maximum stay:

1) Go to your local immigration office and obtain 30 day extension on your existing visa before current permission to stay expires. You can apply early and will not lose any days.

2) Do a border run just before your new permission to stay expires (Note: maybe a few days earlier if visa was obtained locally, so check your visa) to activate second 60 day permission to stay on re-entry.

3) Extend again before expiry at Thai immigration for another 30 day permission to stay.

4) Go to Vientiane and obtain second double entry tourist visa at end of permission to stay. As already said, should not be a problem. New 60 day permission to stay on entry.

As an after thought OP has advised he has only used the first entry of a two entry visa. So he has several options but does not have the option of a new visa as that will not be issued with a valid visa already in passport.

1. Extend for 30 days at an immigration office and remember he has to exit country/return before the expiration date of the visa (not the extension of stay) to obtain second 60 day entry.

2. Just exit country and return for a new 60 day entry.

WOW !!!!!!! This is crazy.

I have the same as the OP.

  • I went to Vientiene on October 29th 2009 and got a double entry visa which allowed me to stay in Thailand for 60 (+ 30) days until December 26th 2010.

  • After 60 days was up (Just before) I went to Immigration in Bkk and got another 30 day extension free on Dec. 28th 2009. This gave me until January 27th 2010.

  • Just before those 30 days were up I went to a border at Cambodia (Poi Phet) and got another 60 days free. This gave me until March 26th 2010.

  • Just before those 30 days were up I went to Thai Immigration in Chiang Mai and got another 30 days. This gave me until April 25th 2010.

  • Now on the 24th of March, I will go to Vientiene and use the SECOND of my double entry visa and apply for another 60 (+ 30) day Tourist visa.

  1. Will I be able to apply for ANOTHER double entry visa? Not that I need it but.....
  2. What are the fees for a Canadian if anyone knows now as of March 2010? Back to 1950 baht or free?
  3. What is the cost if I CAN get another double entry?

This is April so you are either in a time warp or mean April. Yes you will likely be able to obtain a one or two entry tourist visa in Vientiane and the cost will be about 1,000 baht per entry or free (free should be coming once MFA directs it).
