I've not, but I would wait to see how the ford fiesta performs in comparison..more hp and 6 speed twin clutch transmission. I'll be looking at this closely and would campare this to the jazz. It would make a nice second car.

my siser in law bought a new Jazz yesterday and it looks like a fantastic little car. the Mazda 2 looks very small from the outside compared to the Jazz. what is the price of the Mazda 2?

Any confirmation that they will actually sell the car with this transmission here?

roughly the same as the Jazz and Yaris, in the 550,000-700,000 range depending on trim level

My mate told me that the Jazz has got car of the year award again! To me that means nothing, as every car on the Market gets an award from some show or magazine. There must be hundreds of magazines giving out awards to all sorts of cars.

Anyway I had a go in the old jazz and thought it drove somewhat like a shopping trolly, very light steering. I'm used to bigger cars though so maybe that had something to do with it.

The jazz is brilliant, but I do have to say that the Mazda 2 drives better, I don't know what it is but something feels better in it. I took one out for a spin from the garage, I wanted to buy one for my GF (back to where I was two years ago, one pick up and one small car)... The only negative side with the Mazda 2 is that awful magazine storage space infront of the glove compartment... It is ghastly and it looks like it is not finished... Needless to say, she won't get that one...

I believe it's sensibly lighter than the Jazz, which always helps with driveability :)

I'm not sure. I would hope so, as the rest of the world gets it. Its in the focus diesel, so I don;t see why not. However, the 1.6 / twin clutch model might push it out of the class, to compete with the 1.6 altis and the like. Not much info. has been released, though in top spec and priced like the top jazz, it should be a winner. At the motor show I saw it and it looked nice - didn't fancy the rear drums much though!

right right, wait and see... seeing the reverse love affair of Thais and manual transmissions, I would not hold my breath :) Although, these twin-clutch trannies also have an automatic operation, right?

twin clutch is an auto.

But there is no delay from one gear to next, up or down, actually much faster shift than any manual. It can also be used as an manual, but no clutch to operate

It shifts faster than any other gearbox, it doesnt have a hydraulic converter steeling power, it has better emission than any other gear and uses less fuel than any other transmission. So far

sounds like a winning combination, I guess it'll be down to how much of a price premium it would bring over a regular manual or automatic for a "cheap" car...

Agreed.

The back end doesn't work for me - the way there is no overhang coming back from the rear wheel arch. Makes the car look short and unbalanced in design.

Still, it's a positive thing that there are some more alternatives to the Jazz/Yaris/Vios sector now, especially what with the Fiesta soon to arrive. Hopefully the extra competition will be good news for the consumer.

Yes it shifts faster than a regular auto. Im Malaysia, when the tested the focus tdci manual vs powershift, the powershift consistently gave faster 0-100 times. Overseas, the fiesta powershift 1.6 will do 0-100 in about 9.9 seconds. Almost as fast as a civic 2.0 - and give much better fuel consumption to boot.

Ford's problem here seems to be marketing. My brother-in-law hadn't even heard of the focus tdci, when I asked him to find me a second hand one! I guess they arent so common.
