chopperbopper Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I have been thinking about going to check out Bar Ice for a while now but not got round to it yet. Has anyone been to Bar Ice ? If so whats it like ? I have been told that there is an quite expensive cover charge to get into the actual Ice Bar bit. Is this ture and how much ? On the advertisments it doesnt really say there is a cover charge . If there is a cover charge is it worth it or not ? and does the place serve food ?
screamingeagle Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I think the food might be a bit cold!!!
koheesti Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I've been but was with people who never had to pay so I'm not sure. When it first opened I think the cover was 700 baht. Then last year maybe 400-500 baht. It also might include a shot of vodka. An awful lot of "maybes" in that reply and no concrete facts. Sorry. If it's worth it or not might depend on how familiar you are to -7C. For a tourist coming from the northern winter it would be a waste of money. If you're from a hotter climate, it would be more interesting I would think. It is a decent bar even without the walk in cooler and there is no charge for that.
NHJ Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 i think it's 400 or 500 baht to enter the giant freezer.
BasementCat Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 It might be uncomfortable to hold a vodka glass while wearing mittens!

I think it would be really COOL to take the buffalo to the Ice Bar to CHILL OUT. Mittens might be a problem, though! You'd have to knit two pairs for it!
NALAK Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 if you are a permenant resident its free to go in ice part plus you get 20% discount on drinks. otherwise i think its 350 baht. if you buy 5 drinks in bar again free to go in. i use it alot, good place to take new girlfriend
Gatorade Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I went there with a group. It was good fun especially if you try all the diifferent types of vodka. You have to be careful though when you leave because if you have had a few shots, going back into the hot atmosphere can have some interesting side effects.
screamingeagle Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Hard to get excited in there due to the cold Brass monkeys??

I never patronise a dive that shouts at me with loadspeakers...

julesandmartin Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 We take all of our overseas visitors to Bar Ice as they we are all a bit old for the Mango Brain mash and unless you live in Tokyo, Finland or London your never likely to see a real Ice Bar again. OK if you live here like us your not likely to go in the freezer solo every week but I have to say every visitor we have taken in has loved it as a single holiday experience and the photos you take in there always look great (women especially love the giant ice c**k fertility carving ). In the interests of fairness on here I asked about entrance fees and deals and they are: First visit inside the ice bar there is a minimum charge of 375 baht which rises to a maximum of 550 baht depending on the drink you want inside. (If you make yourself known to the management after this first visit and return again another day you will be admitted free - so you only really pay once) If you are a regular visitor and resident on Samui you can apply for a VIP card which would give you 20% off drinks even in the entry free areas of the main bar and garden. Even if you don't go into the ice bar itself the free main bar and garden area is a nice place to relax, if out for a few we tend to drink there as its building a bit of a regular crowd which is nice. I like the place because it's different, not the same same Samui bar. We took latest visitors there last Monday night and a stage has been setup in the garden with a free comedy hypnotist show running for the next few weeks. Totally free and a fun evening, these guys deserve a bit of credit for trying to bring us something new to evenings on Samui.

Birdman Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I am a long longterm resident of Samui. Can I just pop in sometimes when passing at the hottest time of the day FOC? I have also a Thai driving license.
