Phuket Dentist

Just came back from having a dental check up, cleaning and whitening (first time) and was very impressed.

Phuket Dental Center is next to the Bangkok Phuket Hospital and they can be found via their web site (link not posted). Excellent English, very capable and professional, gentle and pain free and NO two tier pricing. I paid Baht 9,000 for whitening but saved the better part of Baht 24,000 for a replacement crown and post rework that was previously advised as necessary by the dentist at another hospital nearby, the solution being to refill the adjacent tooth.

I'm really pleased to have found some where this good and can strongly recommend the place, as others on this board before me have.

If thats the one a little east of the Patong hospital I have 2 reservations.. The filling he did came out a year later and he seemed to work in the hospital (at perhaps 1/5th the price) and ran to the dental clinic for his lunch break and after 4 or 5 when he finished.. I arrived and they told me to wait, after about 30 mins and no sign I was just about to walk when he ran in.. Maybe thats changed but it felt a little unprofessional.

I have had great experiences with the chinese lady next to Keng Kiew pharmacy..

Not sure, turn out of the drive of Bangkok/Phuket and stop at the guard post and it's the building immediately to your left, a female doctor who was great and whose name I don't have to hand but will PM you with it later, I was impressed.

LivinLos you're talking about Patong Hospital, CM you're talking about Bangkok Puket Hospitol in Phuket town.

CM those prices seem high to me, but I guess if the service is worth it. Dentistry isn't something I necessarily want going to the lowest bidder, but I know a teeth cleaning at Patong Hosptial is like 200 baht. Basic tooth extraction about the same IIRC.

I had an upper wisdom tooth out yesterday at Phuket Dental Center (next to BANGKOK PHUKET HOSPITAL in PHUKET, NOT PATONG) and I thoroughly recommend them.

Initially went for a consultation with Dr Prasert Thepalong a month ago because I had a cavity between my wisdom tooth and next molar. He said the wisdom tooth needed to be extracted and the molar filled. I wanted to come back after Xmas/new year and he didn't push it at all and didn't even charge me for the consultation.

When I phoned up again they booked me in with Dr Achim who apparently specialises in wisdom tooth extractions. The operation went very smoothly. The local anaesthetic and extraction didn't hurt at all and I've barely had any pain since. They were cool with me listening to my mp3 player during the op (highly recommended, as well as a valium beforehand!). Everyone there seems very polite, friendly and professional and really made me feel at ease.

The extraction and drugs cost 1500 Baht altogether.

Apparently I may need a root canal and crown in the next tooth but again they're not at all pushy and will fill it initially if I prefer.

Please note SB that the cost was not just for cleaning but for whitening, not laser whitening but a product called Brightsmile which involves bleaching and is typically sold for 13,000 baht - basic cleaning is only 500 baht.

TT, pleased you also found them to be worthwhile, maybe we shouldn't tell so many people otherwise we might have problems getting a booking in the future!

That was the quote I received from the dentist at the International Hospital in Phuket, but there again, that was the same dentist who decided she was going to start charging Mrs CM the farang price for fillings etc, because she is married to a farang! Just as an aside, the Bangkok/Phuket quote for the same crown was 16,000 but there post costs were higher than might be expected. A farang friend who is married to a Thai was telling me of his experiences at the dentist where he was quite openly charged 200% of the cost for the identical treatment that his wife had, he said the couple and the dentist stood as a group and joked about it.

I'll have to agree that those prices seem way excessive.

I bleach once a year, had the molds made a couple years back (1500thb) and when I get the bleaching goo it's 700thb. Four nights of sleeping with the goo filled moulds and walla, bright smile.

Also, last year had a tooth that was capped disintegrate on me. Went to Bangkok Phuket, they were able to recreate the tooth with what was left using some sort of epoxy, 1500thb.

There are two Brightsmile products generally available, the "at home" kit and the "light activated" method, I chose the latter simply because I could get it over and done with in one two hour sitting. The "at home" product would have cost 5,000 baht, three thousand baht cheaper than the alternative that I chose.

I also would highly recommend Dr. Prasert Theplong of the PHuket Dental Center next to the Bangkok/Phuket hospital in Phuket town.

He has down extensive work on my teeth and at a fair price and excellent work.

(last time I went in for a cleaning, he didn't even charge me)

I first went to him 10 years ago and he has a much bigger office now but still a humble and highly skilled man IMO.
