I was reminded again of it today when I got a Thai lady friend to sort out the problem with my Thai hotel electricity bill.

Because I pay a monthly rate I have to pay for extras like refrigerator and electricity. In December I used up 71 units of electricity and paid a fee of 6 baht per unit. Then, for January my bill jumped a whopping 800 percent to 574. Something was dreadfully amiss. I was away for 10 days in January and I never once used the air conditioning. And, I don't have a TV. My Thai lady friend went to bat for me and my bill dropped by over 3000 baht. I'm not sure WHAT the original problem was, but I thought the hotel owners or managers might be trying to skim the farang tourist. It DOES help to have Thai friends!
