With 400k in bank account 2 months or 40k monthly income you can extend your stay one year at a time inside Thailand at your local immigration office. Am sure you can get multi at Perth or Brisbane with marriage certificate/copy of id card but not sure about Sydney. With above and show of bank account with 100k you can also obtain closer at KL.

If you are asking about the one year extension of stay it would be much better to obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa on your trip and return with that and then 60 days later extend. If you do enter on a tourist visa it must be converted at a cost of 2,000 baht and may require a trip to Bangkok to do so and two proof of funds.

You can not obtain visas inside Thailand except as a step in a one year extension of stay application and it is only a one entry 90 day stamp.

As said, a Single Non Imm O Visa would be the best option.

Extension rules.

2.18 In the case of a family

member of a Thai(applicable only to parents, spouse, child, adopted child or child

of his/her spouse):

Permission will be

granted for a period of

not more than 1 year at a time

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Just thinking about paying 2,000 baht sounds better than having to fork out $225.00 Aus for my ED visa last year at sydney immi!!

So whether or not i get the visa in or out of thailand i still have to go report and pay the extention fee every 3 months? would that be correct?

My posts were based on your going there (Sydney) anyhow so you may as well use if able.

If you do not have a trip for other reasons you can extend your current stay for 60 days for 1,900 baht and then extend for a year on the basis of having Thai wife. That will be another 1,900 baht. Both you and wife and documents will have to appear at immigration office. After money is in account two months the one year application can be made. You do not make any visa/border runs. But you do report your address every 90 days if you do not leave Thailand. If you leave Thailand you must obtain a re-entry permit first.
