Schedule for the Flower Festival, sorry TAT only had Thai - very very brief version in Eng. not worth having. Just translated for some friends visiting but they took away before chance to scan. So here is the extra Thai one I picked up.

Parade starts at Nawarat bridge 0800 6 Feb. All events either Nong Buak Haad or Tapae Gate apart from start of the parade and opening ceremony there.

Feb 5 Fri)

Opening party at Buakhad Public Park ( South end of moat)

1600 to 2200

Feb 6

Beautiful parade starts at Nawarat Bridge at 8 AM maybe :-) Thai time tends to lag at times.

The parade goes down ThaPae Road to the Gate and then down Kochasarn to Sridonchi and then to the Buakhad Park.

They park all the floats along the moat there for all to see.

Good eats and festivities in the park.

The CM Garden Club sets up displays along the moat also. This is a "Don't miss event " Sunday at the park also.

They stop traffic flow along that section of the inner moat road for the 2 days, nice !!

Enjoy :-)

:) Personal observations on the Flower Festival Parade (actually every parade we've seen here in Chiang Mai)- it will not start on time for sure, the parade will move at a snails pace and there will be prolonged stretches when it doesn't move at all. The bands and marching units are quaint but their performances are really lacking in precision and musical skills. Some show a degree of enthusiasm but that seems to wane as the prolonged stops saps interest on the part of the performers and spectators.

Recommend going to the park area and viewing the floats there as they are the main attraction in the parade anyway.

Thanks for your negative input before the event even starts.

Sorry UG but only wanted to prepare those who might be attending for first time for what to expect. Forgot to mention another factor to consider- you will find a good spot to watch and get all situated then as the parade moves along a throng of people who feel the need to move along with the parade will come and stand right in front of you mostly blocking your view and photographs.

A few of those people are related to the marching units/floats but most as just your friends and neighbors who figured out if you stay in one place their friends and neighbors will only come and stand in front of them.

The floats at the Park will not have the adornment of the village girls but that can be either a plus/minus.

Too bad as ,typically it seems, someone feels a need to post something negative. My first Chiang Mai Flower Festival and I was absolutely thrilled. The parade may be the best I've ever seen, I've seen lots of Santa Claus, town festival parades etc. The amount of work that goes ito creating the flower floats defies description. Pretty girls, enthusiastic bands, wonderful costumes. There was some gaps between floats but what else do you have to do on such a fine occasion? It would only be expected that people would be getting in the way of your photos, let's hear some positive input.
