I have a three-month non-immigrant "O" visa (because my wife is Thai) which had permission to stay extended for another 60 days. That runs out Feb. 28. No bank accounts, retirement income, or 40K salary involved.

New employer is "hoping" I can be saved the time and expense of a trip out of country for new visa by extending the above permission to stay on basis of employment. They are busily assembling work permit application documents.

I'm over 60 years of age, if that makes any difference.

Possible? Not possible?

Thanks.

As your original entry was non immigrant it may be possible but don't believe we have had any reports one way or the other.

Thanks for quick reply. Maybe someone with this experience will see this and share with us.

Yes, can do. Immigration just wanted to see the work permit.

At least in my case as an English teacher. Getting one year extension on top of above-mentioned. Don't have to get a new visa.

Similar query so I don't want to start a new thread.

I am currently on a 1-year extension of stay to a Non-Imm 'O' based on work. I will be leaving my employment on the 28 Feb (so I have to go to Immigration and terminate this) and I intend to apply for the 60 day extension based on marriage to cover me for the school holidays while I find a new job.

My question is can a new employer apply for a work permit when I am on this 60 day extension based on marriage, and, if this is granted, can they then apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on a new contract.

Can somebody please also confirm that it is still ok to apply for a work permit for somebody with an 'O' visa or an extension to 'O' married to a Thai without changing to a Non-Imm 'B'?

I am in CM if that makes any difference based on local Labour Offices.

Many thanks,

MF
