Hi,

I am hoping to return to Thailand with the intention of looking around for a business premises to buy and run. All of my previous visits have been for educational purposes, and as such I have always had the correct paperwork provided for me to apply for a multi entry ED visa. This time however I will not have the luxury of any help. So how do I obtain a Multi Entry Non Imm 'O' or preferably a 'B' Visa from the Thai Consulate without them? I have Thai and Farang friends living over there, (sort of on holiday.) Can they be used as allies? And how?

Cheers for any information. I'm totally stuffed without the correct paperwork, and the correct visa. I'm not sure a tourist visa will give me long enough to find a place and re-apply for what I need.

Believe you may be in the UK. If so, best option is to apply for multiple entry Non-O visa on the basis of visiting friends from the honorary consulate in Hull. Can apply by post, and will need to send in application form, passport, recent passport sized photo and fee. Suggest also enclosing pre-paid special delivery envelope for return of passport/visa which will save you about £4 on postage. When you are ready you can use your Non-O visa to support work permit application at local labour office.

Go for the O visa from Hull as Thaiphoon suggests.

No sponsor is needed, just mention visiting friend as the reason.

Depending on your time scale you can get the multi-entry, which will give you just over a year to make up your mind.

You will just need to do a visa run out and back in each three months.

Once you have a business deal set up you can go to KL or Penag for a B visa for business.

Can you really get a work permit with a multiple entry O visa?

If so the I assume you have to renew work permit every 3 months.......?

Is this an option for long term?

No problem getting a work permit on a non-O, I have one myself. The work permit can be valid for 1 year, if you have a 1 year contract, if you have a multiple non-O.

That is interesting. I knew that you could work on a marrried O but not on one from outside of Thailand.

Where is the nearest/easiest country to get one?

Seems that the extention of stay rules are getting tougher and a trip overseas every 12/15 months could be the answer.

You need a work permit to work in Thailand, which can be supported by either extension of stay based on marriage/employment issued by Thai immigration or Non-O/Non-B visa issued by embassy/consulate abroad. If married you can obtain multiple entry Non-O visa at KL with show of marriage certificate, copy of wife's ID, tabbien bahn, short letter from wife requesting visa issue and bank book with 100k+ balance. If not married, nearest consulate in the region that will issue is Perth, requiring signed copy of ID card/passport of Thai friend.

Is it harder to get a WP with a Non-O compared to a Non-B?

If you had a 1 year multiple of either of the above, would you still have to renew a WP every 90 days? (on the basis that extension of stay was unobtainable and you were running your own company)

It makes no difference whether you hold Non-B or Non-O visa. The requirement for the Labour Department is that you hold a Non-Immigrant visa that allows working, and both of these visas do. In circumstances outlined work permit would normally issued for 12 months. Used to have to renew WP every 90 days, but no more, so expiry date of WP and permission to stay will run out of sync.
