A close friend of mine from the UK has recently retired and wishes to settle in Thailand with his Thai wife. He recently received a tourist visa for 2 months, I would've thought he should've received a minimum of 3 months so he can open a Thai bank account and have 400,000 deposited for a minimum of 90 days as per a condition when applying for a non immigration O visa. If he's only been issued with a visa for 2 months only can he get a one month extension. He wants to sort this matter quickly back in the UK before arriving in Thailand soon. Thanks.

He should have applied for a Non Imm O Visa. That would have been no problem.

He can extend the Tourist Visa for a further 30 days at Immigration.

He cannot apply for a 12 month extension based on marriage with a Tourist Visa.

He has to convert that to a Non Im Visa in Bangkok. (2000 Baht)

2 Months after that he can apply for the extension (1,900 Baht)

BTW the 400,000 Baht has to be in the bank for 2 months.

Personally it would be easier to apply again for a Non Imm O Visa and forget the Tourist Visa he now has.
