JetsetBkk
Imagine: pitch dark, the usual insect noises, the sound of a TV (mine) and the occasional gecko noises. I'm off to to water the banana trees at the back of the house using a small torch to light the way. I know exactly where the tap is, so really don't bother looking at where my hand is going. And then the light from my torch catches something just as I'm about to grab the handle and turn on the tap. This little fella gave me quite a shock: I took the pictures after I'd gone inside for the camera. Even with all the flashing going on, still he wouldn't budge. So I had to rig up another hose pipe to another tap to water the banana trees. He may have been the same gecko that I noticed on my desert rose at the front of the house yesterday, after I'd watered it and wondered why part of it was moving. He seemed to enjoy the shower. JetsetBkk
It's not a gecko but a garden fence lizard Thanks! I wondered if it wasn't a gecko because when I tried to identify it by searching for gecko pictures, I couldn't see any similar to that one. But I'm pretty sure this one crawling along the ceiling is a gecko:
mitmig
Yep, that's the Tokay Gecko (Gekko gecko) ... the one keeping me awake at night and fights like a pitbull if you ask him polity to leave your house

It makes a very loud noise, and has a nasty disposition. If he bites, he's like a pit bull and doesn't let go. A gecko is really closer to a "jinjo" which you see all over the walls of most dwellings (inside an out). They make a soft chortling noise, and are very skitterish. They flee at your slightest movement toward them. When the OP described the behavior of the "gecko," I knew it wasn't a jinjo by his description (it stayed there despite his flash photography). A jinjo is really closer to a salamander, except it prefers dry surfaces (as opposed to most salamanders which like water and damp places.). Would some body get a real picture of a gecko/jinjo/house lizard posted on here!?
mitmig
Toptuan, the Tokay definitely is a gecko from the family Gekkonidae, the same family as the Common House Gecko's (or house lizard) which you refer to. This is a picture of the 'normal' house gecko's (hope this site isn't censured? )

That probably explains why the g/f wouldn't go near it and warned me to keep my distance when I was photographing it. <snip>Would some body get a real picture of a gecko/jinjo/house lizard posted on here!? Here you go: some jing-joks feasting on the flying ants that tend to swarm - about this time of the year, in fact. As soon as the rain comes, the flying ants will be out like a snow storm. Of course, jing-joks can get everywhere so you have to be careful when shutting the car door: < Sorry, mate.
